My son has this Lyman deer stalker and wants to switch to a full bore lead like the tc maxi ball. The tc maxi balls fit rather loose. Does anyone know of a slightly larger maxi being produced and sold.

Do they start good for a ways, but then get loose as you push them down?

No they do not start very good. They seem to start too easy and stay that way all the way to the powder. My reconing is that his barrel is just a tad bigger than a standard 50 cal. This only occurred when he switched from Patched round ball to a full bore bullet. He wants a bullet heavier than a round ball. Even when he used a round ball he had to use a thicker patch than I did. A mutual friend (cayuga) said he found a little larger maxi ball source but he has passed away.

I do not know of any current produced Larger Maxi’s? You should look in to casting your own bullets, if you don’t already do so? You could have Tom at Accurate molds make you an Oversize Maxi Mold, His Maxi’s are a Shallower Lube Groove design (which i personally like MUCH better) Sorry i couldn’t be of much help here

No excuses muzzle loader bullets now sells a sampler kit to try and perfect bullet fit. They are not maxi ball but a quality conical hunting bullet. I think the largest size is .504 check the web site for more info. He started offering a 420 grn bullet this past year. That should be close to the length of your current bullet.

I have the same gun. The TC 350gr maxi fits ok and shoots ok but the Hornady Great Plains 385gr bullet fits much tighter and shoots much better in my Gun. Late ML season in NY. Last Day.

And I just got a delivery from Midway of this bullet. They were low stock/backordered but just came in. Go get 'em. Let me know how they work for you!

I have thought about casting my own which I did some of for my bro-in-law at his shop when he had it. I used to have some casting supplies but have since gave them to my son-in-law. If I cannot find a commercial bullet that fits I may try casting my own.
