Has anyone tried calling Knight and see if you can buy just the Extreme bolt body? They probably only offer it as a complete assembly in FPJ but........They offer the Western and bare primer bodies so it might be worth asking.

The old part number was 000688 listed in the manual.

So I just got back from a bunch of crazy business travel. If I have a .52 DE set up for #11 caps and want to shoot BH and 209's I still need to order a bolt is that correct? I have a bolt from an Original (orange) Disk is that of any use?

You would either need Knight's bare 209 bolt body or a DISC Extreme FPJ bolt body to use the Lehigh conversion/plug. The adapter that goes in the bolt is made to fit red FPJ bolts. If Knight will sell the FPJ bolt body you should be good with the internal parts from the #11 bolt.

The bolt internals are simple to remove without tools. Literally takes a few seconds.

DISC Original is similar you just need the C tool or a open end wrench that fits.

I received my Lehigh FPJ/209 Br. plug and bolt adapter to convert my Disc Extreme. I have gathered from the very helpful posts that I want a good primer crush for BH209 powder and a reasonable chance at my action staying clean. I will start with standard Win. 209 primers and 290 gr. Sabots eventually at maximum pressure as I have a couple of Places where any opportunities will be about 175 yards. Anyhoo.. should I try to achieve .004 primer crush at a minimum? And if the crush varies but always adequate are velocities likely to be affected?

It won't work with the original disc bolt. You need an extreme bolt for the adapter to work. The plug works in either rifle. Look at sabotloaders pic and you can see how the adpater fits into the extreme bolt. Won't do that on an orange disc bolt. Not being the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree this is what is throwing us off Is the lehigh bolt nose easy to install

Bringing up an older thread with some info and questions on converting an orange disc rifle. Knight sold me just an Extreme bolt body and I ordered the bare primer adapter and breech plug from Lehigh. The firing pin assembly from the original disc bolt fit inside the bolt body with no issues. My only problem now is the setup doesn't give any primer crush, which wasn't unexpected. Is there any place that I can pick up a few .241 and .248 shims for correcting head space without purchasing 50 at a time?

Sabotloader , are all the knight bare primers adapters ( old an newer) the same size as the ones Dave is selling now ?

They all should be the same as came with a Knight. The Primer Adapters are different than the original (and older) Knight Primer adapters. There are two different bare primer breech plugs one length for the DISC series and one 0.060 longer for the Mountaineer Series. Depending on which bolt you have, either the FPJ style or the newer bare primer bolt - you may or may not need the primer adapter.

They at some point are going to sale the Mountaineer style plug. The last I heard they out for heat treatment. I will check.

I did get in touch with Lehigh. The Mountaineer breech plugs have returned from heat treatment. They are not on the web page as of earlier today but should appear shortly.

And 25 will cost almost the same as 3. You could sell them as a bundled kit and still make a large profit.

Just on a whim i used the OD selector on McMasters and saw these also. These are some .248s that might help. The ID is just slightly smaller than the "lengthening" shims. Cost is a little less if you only need a few vs buying a 50 pack. Using a .003 and .005s you can get pretty close to most adjustments you would need. The .241s are much more limited in thickness so knowing what you need is more challenging without them.

Thanks guys. I will look locally at a couple of well stocked hardware stores but will most likely get a 50 pack of .248s and go one at a time to make sure to not go too much.

The pics i grabbed are right off McMasters site today so pricing is current. Check with Luke at Arrowhead also. He used to sell shims for 35cents each. Pretty sure he only had one OD though. Seems to me they were the .241 most people used for the tighter Savage plugs.

I often use both size of shims.

Basically I use the .241's to actually measure the fit and crush of the primer. With this information I can then install the proper .248 combination.

Depending on the amount of shimming - I strive to have the top shim be the thickest .248 shim I can use. With that I will normally leave the necessary .241 in and place the final .248 on top to hold them all in place.

I have found placing/driving a multiple .248 shims in the primer pocket can cause the shims to end up forming a concave surface versus a flat surface for the nose of the primer.

I have .005x.248 spring steel shims, if you can use them. I add them one at a time to achieve proper crush. They can be removed using a dental pick. If your interested then PM me your address.

Mr. Conyers was very generous in sending me some .248 shims. It took .020 to get .004 crush on the Win 209s. Now the challenge is getting to the range while working too much extra time. Thanks again Sir!

A .004 crush on a Win209 is perfect imo. That wont be enough to crush a Fed209A much (if any) but it might be good enough to keep them from sticking.
