Its a known fact that if a person wants a CUSTOM muzzleloader they're going to have to spend a lot more money for it. I won't hold it against anyone that has the money to spend it on what they would like.
I won't pretend to know anything about the ignition system in the rifle, but the AGS system works perfect and that I do know. I'm not sure I like the ability to rack the bolt and auto load another primer system, which could end up being very dangerous. Yes, a person could be safe just loading one, but how many will only load a single primer system, knowing they can load 3 or 4? We all have a lot to pay attention to when loading, the system in this rifle IMO adds additional safety concerns.
A custom muzzleloader builder can build a rifle for less and also a rifle that is rated for both BH209 and smokeless propellants, using a much better muzzle brake and shoot tiny little groups at long range.

Again, I won't hold it against anyone for purchasing what they feel will satisfy them, no matter the cost.

So many of them out there are based on a Rem700. Very few use a true custom or in house built action. Many are Rem700 clones to some extent such as Stiller/BAT/PTG. That is why i find rifles like the NULA, Gunwerks and Swinglocks so interesting. Kash made a really neat ML only action too. There used to be some pics out there that showed how the Swinglock action works. Cant seem to find them anymore.

Swinglocks are totally unique when compared to pretty much all the rest. They used to start at around $2600 to $3000.

The really cool thing they can be built in numerous styles. From "black guns" to traditional styling.

This was the Kash ML750 action (weighed just under 2lbs). Rem700 foot print, 8-40 scope base screws and pinned, Savage style pinned recoil lug. These were offered in both LRMP and 209. You could build them with a Remage type barrel or no nut. He used a PTG Rem700 firing pin assembly IIRC. I think they were sold for around $700 with a 20MOA base. It dont get much easier than this to build a custom DIY with pretty basic tools.

I have to agree on the Swinglocks . They are unique . When i bought my first custom I looked into the a Swinglock. I couldnt take the long wait and went with a Hankins which is a 700 action like most Custom builds. Lukes ,Hanks, Best of the West ect... My last Hankins custom is built on a Bat action. Better cant really say but different.

Jeff Fisk Omega's and Swinglocks are different in my opionion.

The pre sighted in Scope that comes with the Best Of The West makes that gun unique . Im sure it is a excellent custm build . Jason shoots his gun very well.

Maybe with the new Bench Matches Bob posted, we can see how well it hold up to a Hankins?

LR Customs uses a Stiller action, Lilja 45cal barrel, T-Rex brake and ASG modules. Around $3850 , add $950 with their Vortex scope and 20MOA rail. Thats a ton of rifle for that kinda cash. Stiller actions start at a grand. Includes the Swinglock die and Spinjag too.

Their RUM upgrade package is $1600 with a Brux and ASG modules/plug.

As far as the customs go for us guys that don’t know. Are there any customs that stand out in winning the long range matches. Surely there is 1 or 2 that seem to do better.

Trigger man is still the key . I have customs and yet an old 1:20 Knight disc or white shoots about as good as my customs. So I guess it doesn’t make as much of a difference for me as it might for a better trigger man . They all shoot better than I am capable of .

I may be close, not exact, but in the matches that Bob runs, every winning rifle starting in 2015 has been a .45cal, but he'll (Bob) have to comment on the classes. In 2014 in the same match, the overall highest score shot was by a .50 Ultimate BP Xpress...….. which I personally have never considered a custom rifle. That's a whole different subject for a different post.
The guys that shoot in the Nationals and shoot custom rifles, rather that be a Hankins, Knight 500, or Bestill Creations can better answer which one over the other. If Bob comes back on, Bob will know too.
There are differing opinions on "custom", as very few rifles shot in competition are "box stock".
I think that those differing opinions might be what helped/caused/created the NMLRA to create two new aggs that Bob posted about at long range from the bench.

Its always the trigger man...….. ;)

Member Bestill is a gunsmith (Bestill Creations) that builds custom Muzzleloaders and is a long range champ at Friendship. He build some beautiful Rifles too.

Im not really familiar with custom muzzeloaders. Other than watching Hankins videos on YouTube. He builds some beautiful guns muzzeloader and centerfire that seem to shoot great. That gun he shoots he calls cyclops is a frickin monster. Lol

I quit looking when I saw $6000

Don't misunderstand. I am not criticizing, but for my purposes, that is too much. haha. Realize that I have a $3000 Precision Air Rifle here, that I bought for my son, when he was competing. :)

Since I own a Bestill .45 Omega, I am admittedly biased, but I believe it is the perfect rifle for someone looking for their first custom inline. The price for one is probably lower than any other custom and while the price may be entry level, the performance certainly is not. Simple, functional, as accurate as they come and light & compact enough for a carry or tree stand hunting rifle. I also have 2 custom smokeless bolt actions and while they will handle heavier powder loads, and shoot heavier bullets at a flatter trajectory than the Bestill Omega, they are not more accurate. Because of their weight, they are best used from a bench to shoot paper or as a blind rifle for hunting. Jeff''s Omegas are definitely unique.

$6000 for a rifle, and a muzzleloader at that. Just the thing for a person with more money than sense and an outsized ego that wants bragging rights with their like-minded friends. And it's a bolt action, so cleaning it has to be a PITA.

I see you are a traditional , and that anyone that would want one has a big ego!!!!!!!!!!!! Well i'll be your Huckleberry!!!!!!!!!!

Oh please elaborate on how hard they are to clean. I would wager the breach on my NULA stays cleaner than many centerfires and any mass production class muzzle loader. If modules or even 209s are fitted correctly virtually no fouling gets in the breach. Many of the customs are also rated for non corrosive powders so its not like its a huge deal from a cleaning standpoint.

What muzzle loader do you shoot?

So many times i see stuff like this but if its a custom sidelock, rare GRRW or a $2000 Pedersoli they drool over it. Then its totally justified and not about ego at all.

I have a Pedersoli and I know what you mean . Little do they know that a real custom Flinter or Percussion would be just as much as the 6000 inline
