Does anyone have any experience using N110 with a CVA 45/70 conversion using light bullets, say in the 195 to 225gr range? What powder/bullet/sabot combinations are working?

I hear N-110 is a VG powder in your bullet weight range But here I can't find it I use 60 grain of IMR-4198 with a 225 Fury and a harvester blue sabot Very good load also us 10/4759 50/4198 duplexed

You cant use much N110 but its a good powder. Start at 31-32gr and work up slowly to about 35gr. You might need to add a veggie wad when you get to 34-35gr or sabots will start failing. N110s RISE to peak is very fast compared to the slower powders. Not many people have had any luck past 35gr.

Is there another powder with a burn rate between N110 and H4198 that people are having good results with that isn't quite as tough on sabots? I'd like to use a somewhat fast powder because weight of powder is a significant factor in the recoil calculation. Also, it needs to play nice with 209 primers in cold weather. Thanks for the help so far.

58gr N120 will give over 2700fps with a 200gr. My personal favorite powder for 45s but it is a little temp sensitive. Goes bang fine but you might lose some speed in the cold.

63gr of Reloder 7 will give over 2500fps with a 200gr...i got over 2600fps with that load in a Savage 27" and a 200gr SST.

SR4759 will also work but its no longer made. Probably wont get over 39-40gr though before sabots start having problems.

I think the RL7 is a double base powder. Start kinda light and work up until you hit the sweet spot. VV N110 is kinda fast/hot and GM54-120 is right that 31 to 35 is good with the HSB and 200 grain SST. Go light like 30 or 31 of N110 with the XTP as it's a pistol bullet and terminal performance isn't good at faster speeds. I can go to 35 grains with the 200SST before sabots begin to blow badly but you will want to use vegie wad on anything over 33 of the N110. My opinion and experience, others will differ. Wolfer

I use 61.9 gr RL7 behind a 200gr XTP in a Harv blue sabot for a bit under 2600fps. The rifle is a Savage 30-06 converted to .458 SML. Groups 2" @ 200 yds and is cold resistant. Will blow sabots after 3 shots on a 90 degree summer day but just about any load will in my gun. The heavy barrel soaks up the heat and won't give it up.

Reloder7 is the easiest powder on sabots ive tried yet. Personally i think a 200gr is borderline too light for it. Im betting a 225gr Fury and maybe a 250gr will lose very little speed vs the 200gr SST.

Good powder for sabots but a bit dirty and might do best in barrels over 25" if using a 200gr. Muzzle flash can get pretty intense in shorter barrels.

You might be right about RL7 being borderline for 200gr bullets. I had wanted to launch the 200gr XTP's at 2200-2300 fps as that's all the power I need to kill deer out to 200 yds but the gun wouldn't group better than 3" @ 100 yds at that power level. I just kept increasing the load until I got to the magic number at 61.9 gr. This is out of my Savage 111 with 22 inch barrel. I'm currently building another SML based on an H & R 12 ga shotgun. The purpose of the new build is to be a lighter weight carry gun that handles quick for stalk hunting. The Savage shoots great but is not fun to haul thru the woods and it handles about as quick as a BAR. I'm hoping the new gun will shoot well with lighter loads so I'm using a McGowan 1 x 22 barrel which should handle the short bullets better than the 1 x 18 barrel on the Savage. Although far from done I did test fire the H & R with the 61.9 gr load and the recoil does get your attention as it only weighs about 7 lbs without the scope.

My SavPac 45 1-22 shoots the 200gr great with 63gr of Reloder7 but you can tell by the trace its not got much peak pressure. 26kpsi is pretty low even for a dbl base powder.

I have an abundance of Re-7 I have the 225 and 250 fury bullets w/harvester blue what would be max. load for this powder out of my newly bought Knight from Schunter and staying below 40,000 Thanks Lou

We dont have any traces for the heavier bullets but my wild guess is 63gr should be safe with them. Ive seen loads as high as 69gr with the 200gr and peak was still pretty low.

The gentleman who offered me some N-110 Thanks but I was able to buy three bottles from Midway USA which will last me the rest of my days they had free hazmat Thanks again Lou

My order last month Natchez beat Midway even with Midway's free hazmat. Ended up like I got a pound of powder for free in comparison!

MidWayUSA $33.99/lb
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1013086950/vihtavuori-n110-smokeless-gun-powder
Total $124.35 but free hazmat with a $150+ powder order
So add another 47.03 in powder and save about $11 in hazmat.

Natchez $34.99/lb
https://www.natchezss.com/vihtavouri-n110-smokeless-rifle-powder-1-lbs.html
Grand Total: $124.96 plus $5 shipping on orders over $99

BTW both those prices are great for N110 and both places have N120 which is another excellent powder for 45cal smls. I would wager that slightly reduced loads of N120 would rock with the 40-250gr Fury.
