Well the Black Knight in .54 was a bust...Rust rust and more rust...I will be parting out the stock and sights and trigger and...

So I found a Knight D.I.S.C. 50. I wish it was a .54 but I am well pleased with this rife. Bot there are no manuels and no tools, its just the gun and I don't have a clue. Is this the orange disc or the red disc model? How to take the bolt out how to remove the breech plug and other stuff. I have surfed the web but have not seen the specific manuel. I have found some generic stuff that has me thinking I may be able to figure it out, but I was hoping you all would be kind enough so I don't stray too far and do something stupid. Thanks...here are some pics.

Orange DISC model. There is an Allen head screw on the left side of the receiver, turn that out and your bolt will come out. You will need a C-Tool or a 7/16" open end wrench for bolt disassembly.

Looks like there might not be a shortage of rust on the DISC either. Hopefully the bore has been taken better care of, but if what you can see hasn't, what you can't see usually hasn't either.

Good luck!

OK so I got the bolt out...easy. The breech plug came out with no issues. I love the design of this rifle. The exterior of the breech plug had some old sticky oil and the bolt was spattered with it but some rubbing alcohol and elbow grease and its all cleaned up and looks like new...so I put a brush and patch on the ramrod and made a couple of passes on the bore. I held it up to the light and it shines like a mirror...no dark spots, no signs of damage and the lands and grooves are sharp. I swabbed and lubed and put some Knight breech plug grease on the threads and put it all back together.

I used the Big 45 Pad on the exterior metal and got it looking like new getting rid of the surface rust spot you see in the picture.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this rifle. I am into it a total of $135.00. Its not a .54 but I know I am going to be happy with it if it shoots. I have to look for some orange discs and tjen I will get it to the range!

Busta thanks for the info on getting it apart.

Will this rifle do best with conicals or sabots? During ML season here we can't use sabots, so I am hoping to find a conical that will work.

To get the bolt apart (remove the hammer assembly from the bolt handle and housing) you will a 'C' tool as Busta suggested or properly insert a 7/16" open end wrench under the Secondary Safety of the bolt. The opening in the wrench 'does' need to be oriented in the right place to allow the Secondary Safety the ability to pull the hammer assembly back.

This picture might help some.

These pictures should help you orient the hammer assembly back into the bolt housing.

At some point you probably are going to want to change the bolt housing to the newer bolt housing that will allow you to use either the Red Plastic Jackets (FPJ) and 209 primer for ignition or the bare primer ignition (NFPJ) system. The problem will be finding a the newer bolt housing.

This picture shows the two different bolts... The bolt on top is a newer bolt for using either the FPJ or the NFPJ system. The upper bolt is pictured with a primer adapter installed for the bare primer ignition. The bolt on the bottom is the older Knight bolt for the Orange plastic jacket ignition

The rifle should/can shoot both sabots and conicals, but since you are in Colorado you are required to use full bore conicals. There are a few options available to you.

The one that I use here in Idaho is the Bull Shop .503x460NexMT lead conical

Sure hope some of this information helps...

Very helpful with the pics and info. So are the orange inserts for use with 209 primers or some other ignition. Its sad, I truly don't have a clue about this rifle.

I have 100 orange discs on the way thanks to the auction site.

You suggested I will want to trade the bolt out, what are the pros and cons from the old bolt to the new style?

Yes you insert the 209 primer into the Orange Plastic Jacket - drop that into the opening in the bolt, push the bolt handle down and you are ready to shoot it.

With a new bolt and the right parts you can make your breech area clean like a centerfire rifle + you can then move up to a better breech plug. Your current breech plug might be iffy shooting BH 209. It will work fine with the other BP subs.

But with your current bolt handle and housing you are not able to use these new systems,

Perfect, thank you for the info. I start looking for a bolt, but shot the orange system till then. I liked Pyrodex for the TC Sidelock I used to have, so I will start with that.

Hey bloodhound, sounds like you got a good deal on that disc rifle. Triple 7 powder works really good in those rifles too. Enjoy.

I bought one a few years ago at a pawn shop cheap. Shoots 1-1/2” at 100 yo 60 from 777 3f Hornaday 240gr XTP and green harvester crush rib. Mild recoil I had bought If for the kids to hunt with. If I could but thebolt bodybcheap I’d do the conversion for now I’d just buy orange discs
