hello all,

My question is how far back on the barrel do I need to have TVM cut the dove tail in the barrel. I bought a peep sight from Muzzleloader building supplies call the Johnston peep sight.
21110I - Johnson Peep Sight Only - iron

I’m having them build me a 62 caliber Deluxe maple Leman. The stats are as follows.
Barrel diameter- 1 1/8 straight
Rot- 1:72 from rice, with a custom breach plug to handle charges up to 150+grains
Length- 36 inches
LOP- to be determined
Flintlock

Any information would be awesome.
Thanks, Don M. From Pittsburgh

Forum member, and good friend of mine Harleysboss has one of these, Hopefully he can answer this for you. I have no experience with this particular Peep sight, But i do shoot Tang mounted Peep Sights Exclusively on all of my Muzzleloaders. if it were me, i would want it as close to the Tang as I could get it

The Johnson peep sight that I bought has two mounting holes. I don't think they have to cut a dovetail, just drill and tap the barrel. I would call them and see if it would be best to send the sight to them and they can mount it for you during the build. If you don't have the sight yet, when you get it, practice taping it in different locations on an existing rifle to get a feel for what works best for your eye. As luck would have it, I cant find mine currently. To much junk in the parts box! I will be having mine mounted on a TVM Early Virginia 58cal.
