Caught 140 and kept 43, I caught 76 and my step son caught 54..fish were hitting very aggressive but wind was blowing a steady 16 mph, we would of probably caught 200 or more if we could of felt all the hits..lost 2 at the boat that would of went 13.5-14 inches..Crappie were caught 3-8 ft deep(most about 10 ft off bank) in 12 ft of water on 1/16 oz ball head jig w/blue body chart. tail 2 in curly tail and a pink/chart Slab Daddy. Great day and my XI5 did a great job holding my 18 ft pontoon in the wind.

Looks great but your killin me, I've got 16 more days then it will be my crappie time. Don't think I've ever caught or seen a 14 inch crappie and don't think I ever will where I fish. Thank God the 10 inchers taste the same but DAMN that would make a fine sammich!!

not many in this reservoir either, 25 yrs ago used to catch quiet a few but anymore most keepers are 9-12.5 inches.. 1st time in awhile I've had 2 that big on.

The bite has started on our local reservoir too. Went last Saturday and Monday and caught a few. Biting on black-chartreuse tube jigs tipped with a crappie bite. The next 3 weeks should be great fishing provided the weather cooperates.

unfortunately I dont believe the weather is going to, up to a inch of rain tonight, 20-30mph winds gusting to 40 or better..above average rainfall up until 1st of June is what I heard so more then likely water levels will be seesawing back and forth again this year.

You need to head north my friend. We have plenty of 13"-14" crappies with some 15"16" tossed in for fun.

Dbowling.....where did you get the counter? I wore out my gate counter last year after about 20 years and that looks like the ticket.

Well I havnt been invited by a reputable crappie guide and lure maker. Hmmmm:think:

Twild....

I fish pool 5 of the Mississippi River a lot and have several area there where we see some huge old black crappies. I found these fish while trolling a size 15 Rapala for walleyes laying deep along rip-rap. Its sure a surprise when you get the net for what you think is a nice walleye and find a 16" crappie on the trebles. A friend and I discovered a deep scour filled with sunken timber created about 100 feet downstream from a new daymarker's rock base set in 20 feet of water not too far from shore. The corps of engineers added the daymarker and in doing so created the scour....lucky for me. lol The scour is at 37 feet at its deepest during "normal" pool levels and big black crappies love that wooden forest in the water. Its a bear to fish with lots of snagging possibilities but those brutes are well worth it.

The lake I fish north of home here about 12 miles has crappies up to 14". Lots of lakes further north are "big crappie" waters. 14" crappies are pretty common in Minnesota if you fish for them.

The Canadian boundary lakes and rivers put out crappies in the 16 to 18 inch range on a very common basis. A few years ago Upper Red Lake was a 16"-17" crappie mecca that once found out was reduced to your basis 11" fish type of lake in three short years....constant pounding by anglers all year long due to heavy promotion by resorts. It was a destination type of fishery that was reduced to a ho hum fishery. What a waste.

With the current flooding and high water likely to linger well into the late spring/early summer, lets see how the big river unfolds for later on in the summer, eh?
