skin cancer again

Man, this is getting to be an annual affair.

I had my one year check after going thru that ugly surgery last year for skin cancer. Today was a body check and 7 more were found on my bald head that were borderline between cancerous and pre-cancerous so as long as I was there and freezing was the preferred treatment I had it done on the spot. Tonight I look like O tried to stop a load of 00 buck, lol. The worst part is the headache from the freezing the 7 areas. No pain really as long as I don't rub the spots so that's a bonus but I will look like heck for Christmas.

Use sunscreen people. This stuff was totally avoidable had I had the information I have now fifty years ago.....about like cigarettes and smoking. The ugly isn't known until its way too late. At least these were caught before they'd escalated into what I had before. This stuff is just plain insidious and doesn't give an inch.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had quite a few surgically removed from my face, back and chest. My dad had numerous ones removed from his face and top of his head. In fact it actually was the cause of his death due to he let it go too too long. He had to go for Chemo treatment due to it effected a nerve that went to his brain. Unfortunately, the treatment affected his lungs. I no sooner got him home from having a x-ray done on his lungs and he died in my arms as we entered his house.

While we need to pay close attention in covering our exposed body with cream like you mentioned. From what the doctors told us most of the damage is done from when we were kids at the beaches etc. Back then in the 50’s and 60’s who knew about this stuff. Us faircskin guys Really need to pay attention and use proctective skin cream outdoors and or wear hats.

May the Lord touch you and heal your whole body, restoring to you all your strength & joy.

Man sorry to here that I know the VA monitors me yearly for cancer. I know with my family history its a matter of time.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I just wanted to remind people to take some care in the sun even if you tan. And to further that tanning thought, Ma is a super easy tanning person and only a couple weeks ago she had a spot checked behind an ear and it has been diagnosed as basal cell skin cancer. Nobody is absolutely immune to this stuff.

I have several other spots that are still clean but the long range prognosis is that they will likely go to cancer too. The decision to wait and see what they do is fine with me but this is one annual check up I won't pass on. All 7 of these that were tended to were sure to become squamous cell cancers if I had not been fortunate enough to have that check up when I did according to the doctor. The characteristics of these were not how basal cell cancers appear I guess and the basal cell cancers are the nice guys if there is such a thing. The squamous cell cancer like I had a year ago may not look like much on the outside but its what lies below that's insidious because of how it spreads and goes un-noticed.

This stuff is just plain no good at all so hopefully this reminder will help someone remember down the road. Again, thanks for the thoughts everyone.

Tom you are so right. I had two of them on my face. They were small. However, when I removed the bandages that night my wife was in shock. She said I looked like Frankenstein. The Dr had to cut a lot away to make sure he got it all. Luckily I still have my good looks as the plastic surgeon did a great job. The scar is very slight but it’s more noticeable if I don’t shave.

One of these spots persisted. On Feb. 19th I started a three week regime of Effudex to eat the suspect cancer up. After my three weeks of active application of the medicine it was determined that the spot was a dermatological anomaly, not cancer and on March 25th was snipped out and cauterized. The snipped portion was then sent out for pathology. It came back as a squamous cell cancer again so today I got another chunk of my head cut out. If I'd have known 50 years ago that the sun was going to be this much fun today I'd have found work inside and double shifted for 40 years to minimize my exposure. As soon as I get the stitches out of this cut I plan to start another Effudex regimen on five or six other spots. The Effudexonly attacks and kills cancer cells and inside of three weeks any of these spots that are cancerous will be a bloody mess for a week. Right now I am hoping all of them are that bloody mess so I don't have to cut any more cuts done....for a few years anyway. That damn plastic surgery's door is like a revolving one at a super market.

Efudex is a very powerful treatment, follow the directions precisely. I’ve been through annual treatments for several years now and it prevents a lot of surgeries. Use the sunscreen fellows.
