Bead front sight that covers entire area at 100 yards so using a 6 o’clock hold . Lyman rear peep . Sure wish I had a front globe sight instead of the stupid big bead but it will work for now . I was pleased considering my pathetic eye sight . Now to find a real bear :)
the tiny hole by the way is a 6.5 Creedmore . 120 gr GMX with 20x Vortex scope .
My sons favorite caliber . I will stick with my big lead :)

that's exactly why I took the steel butt plate of my chopped .54 Renegade and put a slip on limbsaver, makes shooting it pleasant instead of a adventure in torture.. I shot 12 ga. slug guns for years and dont enjoy being beat up anymore.

Crescent butt plate , no pad . I’m good for about 5 shots then I usually want to use a different gun :)

Darn it ! How was the hunt ? Did you see anything ?
Saw everything but bear. Elk, moose , wolves deer etc. found bear crap but no bear
Hunted 9 days . Walked 70 miles of gated logging trails drove over 1200 miles of forest service roads. 134 hours actual hunting time .
Got to record wolves from 15 yards away. Found fresh wolf kill and an older moose killed by wolves.
Got videos of moose up close , stuff like that but no bear

Well besides not shooting a bear it sounds like a heck of a good time to me!

It was a pleasure getting to Meet you and your Son Chet, It’s a bummer you didn’t kill a Bear! This was a REALLY hard LATE winter, About the 1st of June is when you probably should have Come, There is just to much Snow Pack to Get around on these Mountain Rds, Most of the places i hunt would stil have Snow (as you seen) The Mountain Roads would stil be blocked with Snow. I don’t hunt Spring Bear, I prefer to hunt them in the Fall (Sept-Oct) We have LOTS of Bear here, they figure 1 per Square mile. If you could see this place in the Mid Summer and on, You would see what i am talking about.

Here they claim 3-4 Bear per Square mile, this is up where you were at Priest Lake

Sounds like you gave it one heck of a good try. My son and I got a special draw spring bear permit for a local tree farm. Hunting will begin Friday. 300 WSM & 7mm WSM. No black powder for this hunt. Roads are just becoming passable in the areas we like to hunt.

Good luck. Post a pic of the Bruin when you get one

Great meeting you too Lewis. To bad we didn’t get a chance to do a little target shooting but maybe next time ... if I ever make it back

0E8BCC59-F5AA-48CA-B6D0-573822DC0714.jpeg I went back to Idaho for round 2 of the bear season. After a week the same results .
I learned 2 things on this trip .
1. I suck at bear hunting :)
2.Lewis shoots better than me

It wasn’t all a total loss though . Even though I didn’t bag a bear I did bag a few goodies such as a 451 Super 91 and a 1:20 Twist Ultralight
Special thanks to Sabotloader for driving it up most of the way to me and Lewis for taking me to pick it up .
We actually sighted it in and it shot great with the first thing we stuffed down it
80 gr 777
Lewis’s 350 gr conical
Even though Lewis shot better I did get two in the target. The gun flat out shoots but that’s for another post
Here is the 2 shots I made at 100 yards . The first one to the right and the second was darn close to center :)
Then I just guessed the ballistics for 200 yards
The Bullet hit only 1 1/2 inch out of center , so it was a decent guess at least
It was great meeting Mike in person and shooting with Lewis
And even though I didn’t bring a bear home we had quite a few adventures and brought a few things home that go boom .
