In an effort to save some cash, I’m asking this question rather than field testing everything on the planet LOL

I currently shoot 240 grain XTP’s on top of 100 grains of BlackHorn (volume)... I am wondering if anyone has tried the Speer Jacketed Soft Point, Speer Jacketed Hollow Point or Speer DeepCurl? How do they compare to XTP’s? I doubt I will ever shoot past 100 yards in the woods...

Also wondering if anyone has noticed that there’s a CVA Optima (that’s what I have) shoots better with more or less power than my current charge of 100 grains. I’m pretty new to inlines, so I’m still in the learning phase. Flintlocks are my familiar area

Lastly, being that my maximum range while hunting is likely 100 yards, I zero my rifle for 50. At 50 yards I am cutting the top edge of the 1 inch circle in half... thoughts on that??

If you do a forum search there is a lot of info about the bullets you are asking about.. Ive shot all of them but haven't used any to hunt with yet..my Master Hunter really likes the Deep Curls, shoots into a inch or less at 100 yds with 90 gr of BH209..XTP`s are hard to beat for a Whitetail bullet and really are not that expensive if you buy them by the 100.

They are pretty close, just wasn’t sure about performance. I have only tried the XTP’s

The Deep Curl is a bonded bullet so it hold together better. The XTP is hard to beat for deer in its price range. I never shot the Deep curls lighter than the .452 250gn and for a good while my go to was the .452 300gn.

You don't say, but are you buying the Sabots and bullets in combo packs or separately? If your buying combo packs, you can do much better purchasing them separately in bulk.

Nothing wrong with your sight in, but I would shoot the load at 100yds just to see where it hits. If it hits a tad lower then you like then you could split the difference but its probably not a lot.

previously bought combo packs, but definitely buying separately from now on. Likely going to use MMP sabots, unless you guys have other input.

I did shoot my current load at 100yrds and it’s about 2.5” low in comparison to the 50yrd impact point

I shoot the 300 gr Deep Curls. I use a black crushrib Harvester and 77 weighed grains of Blackhorn. I'm shooting a CVA Accura V2 with the Bergara Nitride 27" PR barrel. I tried the smooth sabots and my target went to heck. Others have had good luck. The deep Curls were only about $15.00 a 100 when I bought them so I stocked up

The Deep Curl is a dandy bullet and has been accurate in all of my 50s. As to your sight in point, I think you would be better served to zero at 100 yards. You will only be 1 inch or so high at 50 yards with a better chance for the occasional shot at beyond 100 yards. Just a thought.

good info. Thanks bill

You might try Harvester Muzzleloading. Their PT Scorpion shoots very well in my rifle, and they are around $0.50 each (without sabot) if you buy in bulk. Sabots run $0.22 each. If you call them rather than order online, they can give you a better deal on shipping. I use the 300 gr. ones, and they work well.

The Gold Dot or deep curl is an excellent choice for deer I used them for a number of years and they were accurate and did an excellent job on deer ,when they came out with the Lehigh made Bloodline as it is called now I switched to that as the added penetration is good for bear. As for sighting in I suggest you read up on the point blank system as it gives the best advantage in all most all circumstances for hunting.

Used the Gol Dot/Deep Curl 300 grain .452 for years. They work great on deer and are inexpensive and accurate. I have tried different sabots but always return to the MMP. I have also taken many deer with the Speer Jacketed Hollow Point. I still have one I pulled from my biggest mule deer. Very long shot and bullet expanded very well and retained most of it's w

I may just stick with the XTP’s. I’m happy with the accuracy, especially considering the Ranges that I hunt. I have actually never taken an animal with an in-line just yet, but that should change in the next few weeks. It seems to be apples to apples between the projectiles that I asked about. So considering the price point of the XTP, it may be the best option

I've shot my last 30 or so deer with the XTP's ahead of black powder, t7 and 209 powders, all inside that 100yards so if you're happy, stick with what you've got.

If its possible to go wrong with an XTP, it won't be far wrong. I've used 3 different calibers and 4 different weights all with complete satisfaction.
If there were no other bullet available, if be smiling all day. The ability to match bullet to velocity to critter is critical to success. Hornady's velocity charts are very helpful in this regard. Their motto says it best. Accurate. Deadly. Dependable.

I would agree with the above now that I see your shooting 2.5" low at 100. Center it up at 100 and you will not see any difference shooting closer, but could save you on a shot at a deer that is a little off at 100 or 125yds. The Max point Blank sight in works well for some and you could research that. I don't use it but that is just my preference.

Newbie here, anyone shot the Federal Premium B.O.R Lock MZ Trophy Copper Bullets in 270gn?
