Dennis, what is an Arkansas underhammer anyway? Never heard that used. Mike

45-70, I always thought that an underhammer would make an excellent long range rifle, but I've only seen one used in a match. Most shooters stick with the traditional Gibbs, Alexander Henry or Rigby rifles.
Here's a photo of an underhammer used in a match in England. I believe it was made by the late Rex Holbrook. Rex made very fine copies of long range sights.

Here's the only photo of a Holbrook underhammer I've ever found from a forum in France.

Good luck with your build. Mike

This under hammer looks close to a Billinghurst lock. But may not be. Lee Shaver shoots his own made under hammer in the world muzzle loading comperitions. An arkansas under hammer is about 10 % larger than a HA . It has a top and bottom tang which is handy to mount a long range soule sight.

He is shooting one of his Ferris Rifles he built. Very fine muzzle loading rifles. Wished I would have had one built.
