I just read on Western’s site that an anti-seize is not required with BH209.
Having always used some type is it really okay not to use anything? Teflon or such? Ventliner threads as well?

I use nothing on my 209 guns' breech plugs, or the vent liner threads, and things are fine. If you like to make a wrap with the tape go ahead, but I guess I'd not use anything that's going to get gooey with use on threads simply because it adds to the clean up.

Many times i have shot Blackhorn with a bare breech plug. Plug came out just fine; never had difficulty removing it. However, these days i like one wrap of white plumber's tape on the breech plug. Seems it feels better when installing or some such. Never bother using anything on vent liner threads, but one should definitely remove the vent liner every time one cleans the plug.

I continue to use a Wrap of Teflon Tape on my breech plugs

I also turn the BP in my fingers after the tape is applied applying some pressure to force the taper down into the threads

I pretty much do the same as sabotloader, one thin wrap of white (not the pink stuff, it's too thick). For the vent liner, I will put a drop of CLP on my fingers and lightly rub the screw threads. More habit than anything else.

how many wraps?

For myself and since I also shot a lot of T7, I run 2 wraps around the nose of the plug, for a better seal on the mating point of the BP and Barrel. The second time around the nose the wrap then continues down the BP. So really on the body there is only one wrap. With BH, the second wrap on the nose really isn't really needed but again in my case I am prepared to shoot either powder.

I think the tape is a great idea. Even if you don't need it for breech plug removal I would think it would prevent gas cutting the threads in the plug and receiver.

Gray Teflon tape, it's the version for gas pipe fittings. Just easy and clean. I used the pink for years, I guess somebody didn't think pink was appropriate.
p.s. I've never had a stuck breech plug.

Gray (for stainless) is the best for the application if you can find it.
Yellow is actually for gas fittings
Pink and white are just different thicknesses

Gray contains nickel

Guys it Can Be little messy to apply but Permatex thread sealant with PTFE , part #80632 is much easier than tape . You buy it in a auto parts store . I love this stuff . IMO its the best ive ever found all things considered . I use it choke tubes too , barrel to recievers , nipple threads , etc. The stuff has "caddilac style" .

Never had a problem with the Teflon tape and BH209. Powders that tend to seize plugs more often...maybe not. As long as im shooting BH209 i will stick with tape. Its easy to clean out. Having to push a load out one time was enough to put an end to "pastes".

I use a super tiny amount on vent liners and bushing lock rings just in case.

From my experience....when I use to shoot 777, I had to put the rifle in a vice and use a breaker bar and socket to remove a lubed BP. Now burning BH209, the BP backs out easily just using the supplied T/C BP tool and no lube required. I just don't see any advantage to add anything to the threads.

I shoot mostly with T7, tried tape and found no advanage from it, I just use breech plug grease and have not problems.

Guys it dries and is no longer messy and really is only messy applying it if you got 12 thumbs . You can put that plug in and out many times and not reapply it . I run a pretty hefty charge of blackhorn @ 140grv in my bk-92 custom hot rod and i want that breech sealed especially the threads that are Right There !!! Who needs gas cuts ??? Im an engineer so the last thing im gonna do is something i can prevent . I may be unconventiional but im not stupid . Nor will i create a big mess to clean up. This isnt my first goat ropein boys . I dont mean to be harsh but geez....

My point about the gas cutting was directed towards those who choose to use nothing on the threads or the end of the breech plug. I have no opinion on the permatex because I haven't used it.
