Lyman 457193 Re-Visit

I Tried This Lyman 457193 Bullet back in April of 2018, I shot these in my Green Mountain LRH .45 Cal 1:30 Twist back then, They didn’t Shoot worth a Darn for me? I have Shot bullets of this same Weight, and length in my GM LRH .45 in the past that Shot really well, I’m Not sure why this one didn’t shoot well? I have a few new Tricks to try I just Ran across this Bullet Mold the Other Day, So I plan on Trying them again in my 1:30 Twist, But Also my 1:20 Twist Rice, I didn’t Own this 1:20 Twist Rice back when i tested this here

It’s a DARN Good Looking Bullet These weigh in at 423 Grains when cast of Pure Lead. I have a Sneaking Suspicion my 1:20 Twist Rice will Shoot it well? This Rice has Shot EVERYTHING I’ve thrown at it Well, to EXCEPTIONALLY well. I casted some of these of Pure Soft Lead, and some of 1-40 Alloy. I am looking forward to tinkering with this Bullet some more, if these don’t shoot any better this time, this Mold will be moving Along

I have that mold and, in fact, just shot 3 thru my Knight 1:20 45. They were on 85grV of bh209 and a wool wad. They seemed to shoot pretty well. 1.5" @ 50 yards. Pure lead. i just wanted to get an idea how they hit compared to Goulds on the same load. Turns out that they hit pretty much the same poi. I didn't shoot them at 100 yards. I'll be hunting with the Goulds in 2 weeks so i mainly tuning that load.

The Lyman Gould is an OUTSTANDING Little Bullet

This was my first test of the Lyman Gould, Forum member and Friend of mine edmehlig sent me these to test in my 1:30 Twist Green Mountain LRH Barrel in a TC Hawken Stock. Both of these groups are as good as anyone can ask for with Open/Peep Sights at this Distance


This was the Hollow Point Version


And the Solid Version

I really would not push the Gould with 85gr by volume of BH209. Its pancakes plenty with 80gr and you will be getting close to 1500fps with 85gr.

Eds wonderful 346gr HP pure lead and 80grV BH209

Five of these hollow points averaged 346.2 grain each. The mushroomed boolit weighs 340.8 grain. The mushroom is 15/16 " at the widest portion.

Same bullet with 50gr by volume

Speed at 25 yard clocked the other day was 1155 fps. The bullet weighed 346.5 grain. After capture the bullet weighs 343.8 grain
Energy of 1,037 foot-pounds for a 350 grain bullet at 1155 fps.

Assuming a .213 BC although i think its a tiny bit better.

At 1150fps MV this bullet should still have 800FPE at 100 yards
At 1300fps MV this bullet should still have 1000FPE at 100 yards
At 1400fps MV this bullet should still have 1070FPE at 100 yards

Sighted in at 75 yards it should stay very close to not more than 2" above or below the line of sight out to 100 yards with a 1.5" scope height.

I cast my goulds at 30:1 because i wanted to shoot them a lil faster with the 85grv. I get a bit better accuracy at 85 vs 80. I had a few of the 457193 in pure lead that i was going to shoot in a sabot from my Accura, but was curious how they would do compared to the gould. I know the charge was to hot for them but i didn't get any leading from them and they seemed to shoot ok.
