Thank you for the information, Scott. Shrinking the bullet 0.002" will be easy enough with the new die.

Mastering sabotless is not hard but it does take a bit more effort than sabots. If you have a bullet sized sorta tight on a clean bore and try to load it in a fouled bore, you will know it very quickly. The easiest way around this is sized a bit loose when clean and knurl the bullet up around .002 over lands. Then it will load fine clean or fouled.

I cannot get a .4505 bullet down a .450 land to land bore clean. Not without a hammer anyway. I can take a .450 bullet with .452 knurling down it no problem. Rifling cuts right through the knurling clean or dirty. If i had to guess...the actual bullet around .0003 over lands is about the tightest you will get a bullet down your barrel without popping a blood vessel starting it. You will be lucky to get that same bullet down the bore once its fouled.

A nitrided barrel wont rust with any powder residue left on it. The beauty of BH209 is the residue does not accumulate to the point you need a hammer to push a bullet down the barrel. I'll get some heat for this, but I have a nitrided .45 cal that I've been shooting for over 4 years and going on 250 + rounds. Never once been cleaned. I have a bore scope and have inspected it a few times. Any powder besides BH209 wouldn't have gone this far, probably not even 10 shots.

Thank you for posting Mr Woodman! Am taking the information to heart.

Yes, I am glad to have nitride finish on my Optima. It removes the stress of having to clean often.

I use 777 because of the price difference, and can't stand the idea of hunting with a dirty barrel. I swab between shots so all my shots group. With tight sabots, I have loaded the tight one, and carried loose sabots for a second shot. I haven't had to take a second shot in years. I just got an Accura .45, but can't get it to shoot well. I just got a Swinglock adjustable die, so I'll try make two sizes of bullets, a fat one for the first shot, and a skinny one for any followup shots.

Have you tried heavier, longer bullets? Over 300grn?
