Just got off the fone with Doc White. I bought a S91 .451 on GB supposed to be in excellent condition. After cleaning and inspection i found that it had a recoil lug broke loose from its weld and something going on at the breech end of the barrel. Looked like the surface got beat up or gas cut bad. Anyway, i sent it to the Doc and he says that he will evaluate it and let me know what its gonna take to bring it back to top shape. He said to give him about a month. Fortunately i have several other MLs dialed in for the Michigan deer gun season starting the 15th.

I bought an item about 2 months ago that arrived in a package that looked good, very well packed. The item was listed as new old stock, it was definitely well used with signs of abuse. I contacted the seller for a refund and he would not refund. He told me to file a claim with the insurance as the item was perfect when he shipped it. After several emails I gave up. Guess I got off luckey because it was only a hundred dollar item. After posting my review on the selling site, his 100% positive seller is now 95%. Oh well, live and learn.

I try to look at it like gambling. Worst case you lose everything. As long as I can afford that, it will all be ok. Too bad you can't get GB to take action against that guys false ad.

I always expected it to be less than advertised. After talking to Doc it won't be too expensive to fix anyway. I was a little speechless on the fone. It felt like meeting Elvis. I was afraid to say something and sound like an idjit. But he's very nice.
M.muzzy i only got 1 thing extra to say about that rifle and muzzleloaders in general with a front sealing plug . It looked gas cut you said . Pa Marshall put up a post on tbe inline forum about breech plug grease . When that comes back from Doc i suggest you do what i said there . Everything i said . Its for your own good . I KNOW what im doing on this . I like you and want the absolute BEST for you . Tbats it , thats all .

I have a lot of round through a lot of different Whites and I have never seen a gas cut breech plug using black or black subs. My guess is that someone was running BH through it without a modified bp. If your rifle is not set up for it BH will eat it alive.

I wish i had taken pics before i sent it. Where the breech plug mates against the barrel, the barrel metal was all beat and pounded over. I didn't see it when i looked in from the breech. But when i tried to push a conical thru and it wouldn't go thru into the breech i i look from the muzzle and clearly saw a ring of metal right at the plug.

I would like to know if you have 2 Super 91’s cause if not then you would have to be talking about the one you got from me . I didn’t inspect it but it came from a forum member on here who takes impeccable care of his guns . I traded him for it but never shot it or looked at it before passing it on . If it’s the one you got from me you should have contacted me right away. I won’t say who it came from but if that is the one You are talking about I will ask him about it. I have never sold anything that wasn’t as advertised. If a person ain’t happy I will give them their money back I don’t sale guns very often but when I do it will be what it’s suppose to be or I will take it back. Feedback left for it said A+ great gun. Was this the gun or not ? Let me know so we can clarify things and Thanks

Does it matter who it was bought from? If it was you, you sold a ML without inspecting it, but stated it was in excellent condition. As I said, i didn't t spend more than i was prepared to lose. And the super 91 is, if nothing else, a collectible work of art. I have it, I'll fix it.

Yea it matters cause the person I traded for it is meticulous so I didn’t see a need to check it over. It set in the case til I sent it to you. If it was as you say with a broken lug I want to know I would like to ask him if he took the barrel out of the stock. I never known him not to from his posts on cleaning that he has shared on here
If you want I will gladly give you your money back and pay doc for what he is fixing. And he can ship it back to me. That’s way you will know that I did not intentionally misrepresent the gun and there will be no hard feelings
My reputation is more important than the cost of the gun
I assume you inspected it and found these problems before shooting it
This is the 451 super 91 with brown composite stock sold back in August , correct ? That’s the one that came from me if it is the one you are talking about

Your rep is fine. You got positive feedback. I got the gun that i wanted at a price i was willing to pay. I got to talk to the man himself. Life is good. This is my gun now. My choice, my responsibility. If Doc says its a total loss, then maybe I will contact the guy I bought it from. No harm, no foul, no hurt feelings.

Biggest tbing is to lap in plug to barrel mateing surfaces with valvegrinding compound to form a perfect seal there . Then a sidelock pendersoli or mag spark209 conversion nipple (1/4 x 28) with a lehigh savage ventliner . Weak win 209's (its a really short plug). Permatex thread sealant on all threads . Works , no blowback , no cutting . Oh yea(5/8 x18) cva , i think , plug . 5/32 hole to vent . Thats it .

As long as that peening doesnt affect the barrel threads it will be fairly easy . Unscrew barrel from reciever . Cut damage off of barrel in a lathe . Set barrel shoulder back same amount . Reinstall barrel , torque it to min.60 ft lbs. Thats just very basic but it gives you an idea . I wonder if this was tried and the lug was damaged and the towel was thrown in ? Id bet so .Gotta have right tools and know how . I wonder if somebody thought barrel to reciever was a press fit ? Sounds like it could be possible too . Doc's got ya no problem ....

I couldnt tell and dont have the experience to disassemble it myself, nor the tools to fix it if i did. I just left it to the pro. Its great he is alive and still working on his guns. As a longtime mechanic i know what i can and cant fix myself. Im using a Knight on next weeks firearm opener anyway. Next year maybe Ill be using a White. No downside, even if i dont take deer.
