Solid coppers perform better if annealed. Heat them to glowing with a torch and tip them over into some water. Personally its just not worth the effort to me unless you step upto CF pressures and a full blown custom build. 50cal sabotless is more difficult just because bullet selection is poor and to get into the BC range you can get with a 45cal you need to move upto a really heavy bullet. Its just not that great for longer ranges compared to a 45cal.

40cal is starting to show a lot of promise with BH209. A 300gr 40cal can pretty much be shot at Savage MLII speeds but has a way better BC. Its just harder on breach plugs, vents and bushings. You dont even need super jumbo loads of BH209 to get there.
Rats !!!! That bullet looked GOOD !!! I hunt some thick stuff like river bottoms too where shots tend to be shorter and tracking is a nightmare along with less than ideal angles requireing broken bones like only a heavy big bullet will do reliablely with exit . Any ideas in a full bore other than a conical for a 50 ?? I will drive it hard as i LIKE recoil . I kinda am a gorila....

A 45 , 1 in 20 WILL come later on whether it is just a barrel or another rifle . The 50 , at that point , may be just a luxury i dont really need . I do like big heavy bullets for intimate hunting spots though !!! Time will tell i suppose ..... MAYBE my bk92's original barrel that is a mess (54+ now) will become a fast twist 58 . That would EASILY handle the intimate tasks !!! I LIKE THAT !!! Huuuummmm.......

How long is that unfluted portion of the muzzle end of your new mountaineer barrel ??? Its diameter ???

.850 OD
About 1" unfluted but the front sight goes a little way into the unfluted part. So around .860 in front of the sight.

Could turn the barrel on a lathe and remove the flutes, presto an ultralite.

You are a smart one herschel . Use an od grinder though , better finish and minimal induced stress plus minimal barrel whip/flex between centers..... Never figured you for a mind reader !!!. Little shorter and full form away...... just sayin........
Plenty enough left for a brake too.

Sounds like thats me then . I got a plan but it will take time and money !!! Can you tell them bore diameter and they send you a suitable size ??
Contact Dennis directly at Fury. You won't find a nicer guy. You can get a sample pack to determine which fits your bore best. For loading force, I prefer 20#.
I shot an awful lot of those bullets, even 325gr.
In another world, part which includes ours, some say that they're the best bullet for HUNTING bar none.

Wow thanks Encore50a !!! I intend to make the most of that 50 possible . Right now anything else is just head scratchin !!! The 50 disc is like new , but needs updates for bullet to bore with blackhorn . Regardless of caliber that is THE goal . Bestill plugs and a new bolt should work either way i think , 50 or 45 .

Sportsmans warehouse has the best price on the "Extreme Conversion" kit for DISCs that i can find. Then all you need are the Lehigh bare primer parts.

The kit is $130 shipped. The Lehigh stuff will set you back another 40ish shipped. That should all be drop in ready with maybe shims needed for the plug but no machining to make them fit. If you wanna chance the bare primer bolt body and your firing pin assembly that is $85 shipped. Then all you need is the Lehigh plug and no adapter.

Knight says the bare bolt body needs alteration to fit DISCs but mine works in my DISC?

Part number M900602 comes back as the nicer Mountaineer bolt body too

Whoa !! Hold everything !!! Whats this about the bolt body and firing pin ?? Is it a diameter or length issue or both ??

Firing pin size is the same. Knight says the bare primer bolt body needs modification for DISCs but mine fits and i know someone else that has done the same thing. His fits his DISCs too. I would call Knight and ask.

Ok , guess i might have to then . This 50 disc is a later production as the serial # is 42,000 something or other . What do they modify so it works ??

No clue. Its mentioned in the kit for Extremes. The new bolt bodies are all the same other than cosmetics. Mountaineer bolt body is jeweled and the knob is knurled. Extreme bolts are not. They use a generic pic for all of them.

The bolt must be modified to fit in Original Disc Rifles, please contact us for more information.

What i really want now is the new style Mountaineer/Ulite firing pin. Well just the rear part actually that is SS color instead of black. Back in the day only special DISC models had that SS colored secondary. Like the Master Hunters and i think LRHs too.

Cant you buy that knob in ss by itself ?? I would think so . Parts is parts if they are smart !!!

$50 less than Knight wants and ships free is pretty hard to resist. Knight would be 130.99+15.99 shipping for the same thing. Sportmans shipped my stuff fast too.
