Morning DWB members: I have a White Armstech Whitetail in .451 caliber that I need to work up a deer load for. I currently use Triple 7 FFFG powder and 460 grain No Excuses conicals in another White in 504 caliber that I own. Any recommendations on where to start on amount of powder to use with the 460 grain No Excuses conicals?

Thank You: steve

Failed to mention that the White Armstech Whitetail has a 20" barrel that is 1" wide the entire length of the barrel. Don't know if this information is important but listed it anyway.

Thank You: Steve

Also, the No Excuses conicals I have for this White Armstech Whitetail are in 451 caliber and 460 grains. I also use No Excuses conicals in 460 grains in 504 caliber for my White Super 91 in 504 caliber. Just clarifying the original post

Thank You: Steve

70-75gr of either Swiss 3F or 777-3F has always worked for me in my 451 Whites regardless of the model.

My youngest grandson like shooting 60gr of 777-3F out of his 451 M97. This was done at 100 yds with my 346gr HP Gould bullets.View attachment 6428

^^^^^THIS^^^^^
That bullet is a joy to shoot with milder charges and its still plenty to kill deer to 100yards+. I would imagine its would really shine in the lighter rifles. About 75grV of T7 will yield around the same FPE at 100 yards as a 44mag pistol at the muzzle. Slightly more actually.

Thank you for ALL of your help!!!!

My grandsons first doe was taken at 45-50 yds with 50gr of 777-3F and that 346gr HP bullet. She died where she was standing. Talk about a mild load is an understatement!

The Gould HP just performs beautifully at those speeds. I have never been impressed by soft lead HP conicals until i looked into them. Shoot them slow and they do exactly what they should do. Ron shot them in the "jug testing" with 50gr and 80gr loads of BH209. The 80gr load was probably pushing its limit but it still held nearly all its weight. Plus the mushroom was massive. That massive mushroom must be displacing a LOT of tissue after impact. Even the 50gr load had a huge mushroom.

Thats what?...maybe 1150fps MV or close to a 70gr load at 100yards?....Really hard to beat that for a cheap 100% lethal deer wacker.

Use the same combination for both calibers (like said) just back off 5-10 gr. for the .451. I use 80gr 3Fg T7 in my S91, but I'm shooting a 480 gr. boolet (snot knocker). I prefer NOT to track my deer, but if I do I want a good blood trail. :elmer::dance:
Thank you for the info!!!

My Super 91 in .451 cuts one hole at 50 yes with 75 gfains T7, 3F. ATTACH=full]6436[/ATTACH]
Target is marked 80 grains. But my mistake,I looked at the powder measure wrong.

That smile on that boys face is priceless !!! He just glows !!! AND he shot that target with his own 451 m97 White !!! My gosh that is so COOL !!!! Probably his first gun and he took his first deer with it too . Wow , you couldnt pry that one out of his hands for all his life witb a 40 ft crowbar !!!! I bet you even initially developed that 346gr gould and its light load that preforms so well for him too . Everytime i see this it touches me deeply .You are indeed quite a guy Ed , quite a guy.......

Yep, he did take his first deer a doe with that rifle when he was 8 or 9 yrs old. I'm pretty sure he was 8. His load was 50gr of 777-3F and at 45-50 yds, she dropped where she was standing. After he shot it he told his father, my son, yep this rifle is now my Baby! And that's how it came to be that I had to keep on buying 451 White M97's for all 4 of my grandsons. SIGH

Yes, I did develop that load for him as I wanted to keep the recoil low due to his age and I didn't want him to get hit in the eye by the scope. Not to mention I wanted to ensure the bullet had enough velocity/energy to do its job. If my memory serves me correctly I believe that load at the muzzle was going around 1000 fps. So we restricted his shooting to a limit of 50 yards.

I can think of nothing finer for a g--pa to do !!! Expensive , yes .....but nothing finer . Your heart does MUCH MORE than pump blood..........

I use some 400 grain hollow point conicals over 75 grains of T7. As someone once told me "It's bad medicine from mice to moose". And pretty darn accurate too. Couple inches at 100 yards using rolled up coveralls as a rest and a 2X5 Nikon shotgun scope. Used to have an ultra dot on it (and that was a wicked deer hunting combination) but I up and got old so the crisp red dot isn't so crisp anymore.

Morning: Thank you for the info as I appreciate you for expanding my knowledge on these FINE White Muzzleloaders.

I can see the green dots much better . I got a green dot 3minute reflex sight on a 20ga ithaca skb xl900 semi and i love that thing . UTG , made it-- a military sight maker , $80 !!!! Military optic companies got the BEST deals going !!! I can see that dot on the brightest of days . 6 position adjustable so even at nite its crisp with no halo .
