I recieved a reply from Larry Romano today when I got home from work. . .here it is!

"" lance, can't recut the existing barrel, I would have to drill out the barrel and install a liner with the twist that you want, price would be $450.00 plus S&H

WOW!! I wouldn’t even REMOTELY consider this, If i were gonna spend that kind of money i would go with a Brand new Rice Barrel. My Rice is one of the Most Accurate Barrels i own, Actually, EVER owned! It’s that Good :lewis:

It will SHOCK me if Hoyt is anywhere near Romano’s Figure

I just talked to Bobby Hoyt last night he is going to reboreone of my encore muzzleloader barrels to a 54 round ball for me 1 60 twist I have 4 of them so I want a 54 round ball barrel his price was 125.00 very nice gentelmen

You can get a new barrel made from 4140 for that kinda cash.
Perhaps you can but the barrel I have had only been shot a hand full of times and I've looked and can not find anyone willing to make a 54 call 1 60 twist encore barrel so the 125.00 is a great deal.

Correct. No way in hell i would pay $450 for a liner. Rice uses cm4140 steel for those fast twist dropins.

Rice offers a 45cal 1-28 which is exactly what the OP wants too.
T/C drop in with FAST TWIST ………………… $395

Yup! You are very correct and depending on what I hear from Mr. Hoyt, that is the direction I'm leaning towards. . .actually the lean almost has me falling over myself. Decisions decisions. . .

GOOD NEWS ! ! ! I received a phone call from Mr. Hoyt today. We discussed what it is that I'm trying to achieve and we decided on installing a liner. The whole process he quoted me $200.00 plus S&H ! ! ! I thought that was outstanding. He did say he is about 2 1/2 to 3 months out on barrel work, but I could look to having it returned in that time frame. He asked to send him several of the conicals I planned to use and he would make the liner based off of that. Currently I do not have the mold, so I said to just make it .452". Needless to say, I've stripped one of my barrels and it is heading to Fairfield, PA in the morning. I can't speak of the work as of yet, but the rest of the rumors of a stand up guy seem to be true. Nice to talk to, listens to your wants/needs, gives you his opinion and very knowledgeable. This is going to be a long 3 months - LOL.

What material/steel is the liner made of?
I did not think to ask that question at the time, but it is something I would like to know. I did as about the rifling, round bottom vs. square, and he rocommends the square due to it gripping the conical better??? Other than making the barrel easeir to clean, is there any other pros/cons in the two?

IDK what Mr Hoyt uses but most barrel liners ive found on the web are chrome moly . For a 45 they are all listed as 5/8 in dia. too . Some are hammer forged . They are also said to be cut rifled or button rifled . BPCR competiters seem to use and really like them alot . They seem to prefer the button rifled sayin they are really smooth and shiney inside . You can even choose bore /groove dimensions and twists too . Extremely cool stuff and i am impressed to learn all of this . The process also seem to be very easy to do . The liners are either held in place with epoxy or green or red loctite usually . Sold by the inch . Quite a few makers of them too !!! Underclocked was involed with doing one once i guess themselves !!!
