Okay got another one for you guys. 225/250gr FTX or 300gr XTP? 50cal optima with BH 209. I figured the 225gr would give me a little more reach if I needed it.

The 300 grain XTP hands down, especially for distance as long as the charge is healthy enough to maintain the energy required for it to open as designed.

Xtp..stays together well and can be pushed fairly hard and perform well while also being soft enough it performs at slower velocity. I have about 80 200 grain FTX bullets I’ll orovabky never use other than plinking

300gr regular XTP is the best of the bunch. It will retain far more energy at distance than the 225gr FTX and pass through is far more likely.

XTP all the way. You won't be sorry. Near or far it's a proven killer. I use the FTPs to poke holes in targets, new sight in... I wish i could put them in my Ruger Old Army.

I have shot 300 gr .44 XTPs with great accuracy and kills out of my .50 cal with BH209. I have since switched to 325 gr .458 FTXs using a black Harvester Crush Rib sabot. I can shoot 5 shot groups with all shots touching at 100 yards using 77 gr BY WEIGHT (around 110 gr by volume) of BH209 out of my Rem 700ML using the Arrowhead 209 kit. Has a stiff kick but has accuracy for 200 yard kills and energy for 300 yards if you can read wind and hold tight enough.
