The main ingredient in denatured alcohol is ethanol the others are added to make it unfit to drink. Some a very few contain more methanol than ethanol. But ethanol is still considered the main ingredient always first on the MSDS.Denatured alcohol always contains ethanol but it does not always contain methanol. There was no listing of menthenol anywhere. The cheaper brands contain more methanol its cheaper than ethanol.

Consider this...

Why is ISO used all the time in the medical field and methanol is not?...Well methanol is a considered a toxic skin irritant. Its recommended to flush skin with water after contact. ISO skin contact is nearly harmless. Its used all the time even to sterilize a wound.

ISO-HEET is 98.5% isopropyl and the remainder is not specified. Its cheap and easy to find. There are even off brands ive seen that list it as 100%.

These are 100% alcohol they are used to clean the skin before injections I tied them on my arm and the solution dies very fast

If you end up liking them you can buy non medical grade wipes for much less. They are usually around 70% alcohol. They might be better or might not for Triple7. When shooting BH209 i prefer the least amount of water possible. That is why i suggested looking at the ISO-HEET or a similar isopropyl based fuel line deicer. Places like AutoZone carry off brands cheaper. Its easy enough to make your own and you can adjust the mix ratio for whatever powder you are shooting.

I use a 91% rubbing alcohol when I use alcohol at all on any of my BP guns. That ISO-heat is another product I have used in the past as well, moreso when used for de-greasing and cleaning my cnc aluminum injection molds. ISO-heat leaves no film or residue at all, but like all alcohols the cap should be preplaced quite snugly or the product can do a disappearing act..

While shooting using White Hots recently, I cleaned/swabbed with a mix of 70% rubbing alcohol and Windex between shots. It seemed to do well. 91% alcohol would be better, but what I had available worked. I do have some ISO-HEET on hand, and will give that a try.

If you are making your own patches the % probably is not such a big deal when using Windex. Just use less Windex. Its mostly water anyway. The percentage for me though shooting BH209 is a different matter if mixing with solvents like Hoppes which is kerosene based. One reason i use BH209 is because i dont want to use water based solvents.

For those that want to swab using BH209 a mix of Hoppes and isopropyl is a good choice. Pretty sure that is what Bestill uses.
