After recently acquiring a new in the box original Disc .50 cal, I am pondering whether or not I should upgrade it with the Extreme FPJ conversion kit? As long a I can get the original orange discs, the conversion kit sure seems pricey to only use FPJ's in it, vs, just buying the discs. Is the juice really worth the squeeze to do a conversion to it? This is my first Knight rifle, so I don't know what I don't about it, right now.

Sportmans warehouse sells the Extreme conversion for $130 shipped. It is a better FPJ setup but the bigger bonus is you can upgrade to the bare primer setup later too. The bare primer adapters will only work with the Extreme bolt

What are the advantages of the bare primer setup over the standard kit using FPJ? Or is it a matter of personal preference?

I'm guessing the orange discs leak like the red discs do? I shot my disc Elite with the red FPJ and hated it. I got the bare primer LeHigh breech plug and adapter and love it. No blowback and all the flame and pressure from my 209 primer goes to the powder and not in my face or on my scope.

X2. Did both of my original (orange) disc knights. Worth it in my opinion too. Your breech stays clean. Your scope stays scorch free. You bolt and trigger stay clean. More reliable ignition. Easier to load a primer, drops in & drops right out. Only downside is cost. One other thing i did was add the bolt quick release button to them both. $6 plus a drill and tap.

Some depends on the plans down the road & what powder you plan to shoot. I have shot B209 with the orange primer discs in an ‘original’. It was a bit leaky(blowback) but it worked.

If you can find the required parts, I would take it all the way to a bare primer setup.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably go with the upgrade leading to the bare primer set up.
