Okay I'm a sucker for 54 cal I have a chance to get a new in the box old inventory TC Fire hawk walnut 54 cal. Long long ago I had a TC System one 54 cal but I believe the twist was 1 in 28 the fire hawk is 1 in 38 and I know sabots have come along way since way back then. So with the 1 in 38 twist what kind of results am I going to get with 54x.500 sabots and projectiles any experience would be helpful thanks

A 300gr 50cal bullet is pretty short. Both Speer and Hornady offer a 50cal 300gr HP. Speer also offers a 325gr JHP that is better suited to lower MV loads. Its the same bullet Knight used to include with 54cal MK rifles. Great bullet and its pretty cheap.

Didn’t the fire hawks have Non removeable breech plugs?

Yes they did but that's not a deal breaker for me I wish I still had my TC System one 54

I shoot the old Barnes HP bullet w/purple sabot from mine, killed 2 huge does with it last year within about a minute and a half of each other.
Neither deer made but about 60 yds with double lung hits and no bullet recovery, huge blood trails.
Love my Firehawks, Black Diamonds and Thunderhawks.

There was a stainless .54 Firehawk with walnut stock on GunBroker unfired that sold yesterday. I bid on it, but seller said it had a QLA, so that did it for me.
With shipping it went for $252.00, sure was a nice gun.

All you have to do if you dont like the QLA is cut/recrown barrel or have it done not expensive, the old Firehawks usually shot conicals good with qla, the newer ones that had it were the ones that didnt if I remember right..
