I’ve been shooting the 240 maximus about 3 years now, a knight disc extreme .45 1/30 twist and a rem/pac .45 1/22 twist. Harvester sb and cr. Out of a few maximus shy of 200 shot i’ve yet too blow a sabot. The rem/pac is 2630’s FPS,not sure on the knight. They both group great, the rem a little better. With the knight one hole 3 shot groups common at 100 yds. In the knight Blackhorn 209 90 grains/W, yes a stout load, save in my gun may not be in yours. Ok, first step in bullet prep.
Heat to cherry red with propane torch, drop in cold water or vinegar.
I let soak in the vinegar 20-30 mins, helps clean the scale off. Then knurl up between the bands to .402 -3. I tried knurling the full bearing but they shot better with 5/16” wide knurling. Last step - l run them, sabot and bullet threw my pacnor 458 full form die set at 3.5 to max at 4. Bullet and sabot being fed threw bullet point down so need hollow push rod - 3/8 brass tube, pipe - cut off 06 case solder. On the first pass i push on base of sabot with wood dowel as fed into die to keep both tight together 3 passes total. Also indexed 2 lands a pedal.when done bullet and sabot are locked together.
I didn’t think a 1 in 30 twist would stabilize that bullet

If i run the numbers, its highly unlikely a 1-30 will shoot that bullet.

1.121" is really long for a 40cal in a 1-30 twist no matter how fast you shoot it. Looks like a 1-23 is the minimum needed at 2600fps. JBM gives it a rating of .786 which isnt even close to stable. Changing to .451 caliber still is not even close. Its only .970

If I remember correctly, I read that you need 1 in 24 or faster for them

KWK estimates a 1-23 at 2600fps. Typically when both calculators agree its been spot on for me. I watched that bullet closely on Dougs for years through a few revisions and annealing was only useful to a point. Time and time again and post after post full of failures to get them to shoot with any degree of reliability. Not just that bullet but Lehighs also. The only one i have not seen tried yet is the 40cal copper Lehigh is now offering. All the others failed terribly once you tried to crank up the speed. 185gr Bloodlines had marginal success. I can crank those out with max BH209 loads no problem and not too bad if you use certain "other powders" that are easier on sabots.

IIRC a few guys got the 40 165gr CEB to shoot at speed.

So according to the charts i wasted my money on these, because I just bought another 200 of the 240gr maximus.
You didn’t waste your money you said they work for you, but I know ceb clearly stated you need 1 in 20 twist or faster, 1 in 30 isn’t going to stabilize, im having fun with them at 90 grains out to 100 , shot my freezer filler last Saturday and same great results, three shots three extremely dead deer. and recoil is a non issue.I do believe a better sabot is in our future, these fast twist 45 guns can do alot. I will be trying elr on game next season
