Trying to buy a ml from a guy in NJ. The guy claims he has to ship to a FFL. I've read through the NJ laws (glad I don't live in NJ) and they revert to federal law when shipping out of state. Of course a firearm has to go to a FFL, but we all know ATF says ml's are not firearms. Michigan doesn't require a ml to go through a FFL. Does NJ now dictate laws to other states? Does NJ law supersede federal law?
If I have to have it shipped to a FFL, he can keep the rifle. I'm not paying 30, 40, 50 bucks for something thats not needed or required.
Any of you New Jersey guys know for sure how it works let me know

i think you can ship direct, there is no nics and nj sucks ffl in because we have a firearms purchase card we have to show eligibility , but I would ship direct to you with no hesitation

I spoke with a gun shop in NJ. The shop owner calls it New Germany. WOW! You have to ship/sell through a FFL to a FFL, even for a ML, BB gun, pellet gun.
Doesn’t surprise me but he may be wrong about selling , I can sell and buy from private people with a nj purchase permit

Some of these gun shops gouge for doing transfers so I won’t trust his answer, better to call nj state police, hopefully get the truth, funny because I have had black powder guns delivered to my door from reputable dealers,a few told me federal law doesn’t is all they care about. I really don’t think selling is a big deal

I had a air rifle shipped to me directly from a individual in N.J. and he just shipped it straight to me, he said it was legal to do so.. I shipped a muzzleloader to N.J. also and all I did was fill out one document he sent and sent back to his FFL, wasnt a big deal other then time spent waiting on delivery of paperwork.

What ever I buy in nj I have to show my purchase permit , it’s been that way since I was 18 I am 60 now, but I have. bought guns in other states with no problems, rifles and shotguns all have to go to ffl but black powder guns aren’t considered firearms, I can walk in Walmart across the river and buy one bring it home with no issues, what’s the difference if I buy one privately.JERSEY SUCKS but it’s home

New Jersey State Police and a NJ gun dealer told me the same thing, in order to sell a firearm weather it a be intra or inter state sale it must go through a FFL. For a rifle or shotgun, intra state must have a FID card and the transaction must be with a FFL. Interstate must ship to a FFL, where the sale can be completed per that sates law. NJ definition of a firearm differs from Federal. Under NJ law they include muzzleloading rifles and shotguns, BB guns, pellet guns. Anything that propels an object out of a barrel. Gunpowder, air, a spring. In NJ it's a firearm.

I wish there was a button that says "dislike" under each posting. Cuz I dislike NJ firearm regs and I've never been to Jersey

Yeah gun laws suck here, but we have some real good hunting and fishing, I believe we have one of the best fish and game departments in the country, now if we could get rid of the politicians we would have something
