Another Mold Project, I really like the Weight of my Lyman Plains bullet in .50 Cal, But i have never been a Fan of Tapered Design Muzzleloader Bullets with under bore size bottom bands, Seeing my Lyman Plains .54 Cal Bullet Slide off the Powder in my Dad’s rifle the other Day helped me Despise them a little more. This is what i came up with to Replace my Plains Bullet, Tom drew it up and emailed it to me this morning. My Lyman Plains in .50 Cal weighs in at 393 Grains with my 1-40 Alloy and Shoots EXTREMELY Well, This new bullet is Quite Different in Design (inset lube grooves, vs exterior bands) But nearly identical in Weight and Length. This new bullet is slightly lighter weight, yet has a little more Bearing Surface than my Lyman Plains. The bullet will Drop from the Mold around .505 in Diameter, be lubed and Sent through my .502 Sizer for Hunting (if it shoots well) With 1-40 Alloy this Bullet will hold my Bore TIGHT at .502, Or i can lube and Send them through my .500 Sizer for Bench Shooting which i do FAR more of

That is a GREAT looking mold! I hope you'll share some pictures of the bullets it drops. What type of sizer are you using?

I made up a Decent Little batch of these, But have stil not had a chance to Accuracy test them in my Rifles, They did account for a Nice Cow elk From a Friends Rifle though :yeah: I size my 1-40 Alloy Bullets to .500 in my .501 Bore for Target application, and .502 For a Good Solid Fit for hunting

That’s a good looking bullet Lewis. I much prefer the looks of the inset lube grooves.

I may have to give Tom a call.

Ya baby that is some great accuracy right there. I would love to try that bullet in my Accura V2. That would make for a very bad day for those river bottom deer for sure. Great video and super shooting sir. Lady's and gentleman introducing the
GOD FATHER of cast bullets. :bravo:

LOL! Not sure about that, But i do take it SERIOUS ;) The way i see it, Why settle for a less than Perfect Bullet, when i can Re-pour it and Make it PERFECT :lewis:

Look at some of the Store Bought Stuff you get today, HORRIBLE/PATHETIC at Best!! I picked these up for 1 Dollar Yesterday in a Clearance Cart, Look at the Packaging, ZERO care went in to taking care of the Bullets, they are Allowed to Roll Around and Bang in to Eachother, BAD Deal. Soft lead DESTROYS itself Banging Around against eachother. Look at the Lead Dust

Look at these Bullet Bases, UNREAL! The Bullet Base is what Steers the Bullet, How could these Possibly Be Accurate? It’s not the Bullets Fault, These were Swaged, When they came out of the Swaging Die they would have been PERFECT, but then they Package them Like the Above photo, and Allow them to SELF DESTRUCT in Shipping. PATHETIC!

Why not Ship in a Carton Setup like this, Something that INDIVIDUALLY protects EACH Lead Bullet From Damage

I know Isn't that pathetic :wall:
I personally HATE a hollow base conical so I'd never be buying something like that anyways. But the poor guy that does buy them and trys them andthey aren't accurate for him just thinks that his gun won't shoot conicals and probably will never try conicals again. SAAAD

Come on Traditions spend a couple extra penny's and package them right.

Did you use your recipe lube on these?

Yep i did :lewis: I have been meaning to Visit with you about Bullets, Are you planning to Compete this year? If so, What Cal/Twist? Do you prefer Paper Patch, Grease Groove, or Both?

I wonder if those would shoot in a .500 land Douglas Prem XX 1-32 sized to .502 at most.

Lets find out? I am confident they will. I will have this Mold out in the next Few days, i will pour up a Few extras :lewis: .500, .501, .501.5-.502, then i jump to .504
