I don't know if others have stated this forgive me if I'm being repetitive,,the Bruxs 45 Cal 1 and 20 twist barrels that Arrowhead and hankins and perhaps others offer to me represent one of the most practical smokeless and Black Horn builds that can be put together here in America,,the gun I'm showing a picture of and the group is from the first 1- 20 twist barrel that I brought from Luke at Arrowhead muzzleloading, I have four barrel nut Remington's the actions have not been blueprinted only the lugs lapped, all four guns will shoot just like this rifle does ,each bore has a little bit of different personality on load and bullet but with the right bullet they will all shoot like this,,this particular rifle will shoot the 300 grain arrow Max Pittman like this day in and day out literally into a hole I don't see what a shoulder build or a blueprinted rifle could offer me over this other than a thicker barrel for a lot heavier loads which I'm not interested in,, many of you out there looking for a hot rod muzzleloader find you a Remington action buy one of these barrels from Arrowhead or hankins have it headspace sit down and shoot it and you will be absolutely addicted you don't need to spend the three and four grand on a new rifle or a new-build complete.. the thought of a barrel nut anything I wouldn't even look at for a long time,, I'm grateful to Arrowhead and hankins and others.oh yeah in the picture is a six shot group the blackdot Is covering a hole it was my first shot of the seven yes it aggravated me

I haven't weighed it I have an uncle that's a benchrest competitor here he's got a scale I need to take three or four of my rifles over and weigh them I will say this though it weighs too much for me to carry 8 hours a day in the woods hunting,, it's okay if you got a box blind in a real stable platform but again it's not a very good woods walking gun,, which touches on an aspect of smokeless muzzleloaders I find them to be more of a target rifle than a actual hunting rifle even though I do hunt with Target rifles,, I love guns that put bullets in the same hole and this is the best weapon system in America to do that hands down as far as I'm concerned, I have creedmoors, in every caliber ,I've shot every accurate bore bullet combination that I know of available here in America, ppcs,br this and that,, 300 mag everything I can think of, smokeless 45 cals are absolutely incredible.that group in the picture is normal for this rifle I wasn't just having a good day and got lucky that rifle does it day in and day out and all of my rifles do,, yes I'm a fanatic

Im planning on a barrel nut system for the 40 i want to build . A all out bh209/milder smokeless as lite as i can make it build . Muzzle braked with a kick-eze magnum 1 3/8 pad for the recoil of 200 to 300gr or so bullets . More than enough for Anything in N. America , coastal grizzly included .
I dont believe these rifles need to be so dam heavy . The Woodman 45 isnt a tank and iirc is approx 5.5 to 6lbs And Smokeless Capable !!!!! Pretty competitively priced to a Knight UL too !!! I wrestle myself ALOT over this one !!!! But i enjoy "the build" . Woodman's shop is just Awesome though !!! This guy intends to build RIFLES and is Well Equipped to do Just That !!! I wish him well !!!
I dont really believe a full 1.2" shank is needed UNLESS your Really gonna tip the smokeless powder can ALOT . Even then ya better THINK about What Youre Doing !!!! It IS ROCKET SCIENCE , not pipe bomb attempts !!!!
Just bring a teenager to carry it.......:lewis:

So you shot 6 shots in that one hole? and if so , was that 100 yds? I am still interested in a smokeless gun. I have an Encore with the muzzleloader barrel and a 45-70 barrel. The 45-70 barrel is very light and only 20" , I think. I am not sure either will make a decent smokeless barrel. I dont want to use my Encore for muzzleloading anymore . It is too dirty for a breech gun with all those springs under the breech , it gets hard to clean down there. My 45-70 is WAY too light for a 45-70 . What were those people thinking. Sould be a .30-30 35 Rem. barrel .

Yes that's six shots in one hole that gun has probably shot 20 different groups like that,, that's a barrel nut Arrowhead barrel in 45 Cal 20 twist,I have two other Bruxs barrel barrel nut riggs built on Remington Remington 700 just like that they all shoot the same, I guess that seems impossible doesn't it that's why I'm such a believer in that barrel bore bullet, combination shooting off a steady rest and a rear bag,the only time that gun doesn't group that way is with a clean barrel it takes about six or seven shots of foul shots before the barrel really settles in and then for the next 30 shots 40 shots it's one hole,, I've shot more one hole groups out of that rifle then I have any benchrest rifle I've ever sat behind and I've set behind a few. Again those are un- blueprinted Remington headspace put together in about 10 to 15 minutes and go out and start shooting

sideshow: The ULA and NULA run about that light but most are .50 and he only made a few .45s I thought. I believe he only recommends sabots however.

Melvin ?? If so id guess thats understandable , has to because of liability . He doesnt know the skill levels of the end user understanding powders , pressure signs ,etc . Youd best be tuned into the situation at hand !!!

You are talking about the current Patriot muzzy. 1-24 twist black powder or substitute only. The new version to come soon is 1-18 twist with a McGowan barrel and is smokeless rated. They according to mwwoodman will also offer a brux barrel matched with fury bullets so no sizing. If you check their bore tolerences they are quite strigent. There updated web site and new .45 should be about six weeks is my understanding.

The owners manual certainly does say not to use smokeless. We make another breech plug for it that was designed for smokeless use. As for the barrel, from day one it was capable.
Customer's who wish to shoot smokeless contact me and I set them up with the plug and relative info.
