I’ve been chasing turkeys exclusively with a 20 ga pump for years and decided to go black powder this year. I found a mint TC New Englander with choke tubes for a great deal. Never fooled with BP shotgun before so today was the start. I got really lucky as I got a very adequate pattern with the first load I tried. I’d hoped to not have to carry more than one wad type and the load I’m using allows me that. I’m shooting 70 gr 777 3f with equal volume of #6 lead pellets. My over powder wad is 3 of the over shot card wads. Then the shot with no cup. Then a single over shot card wad. I shot 3 equally good targets at 30 yards. The pattern is good enough for probably 35yds and if steps within that I’ll light him up. Season opens March 15 so I have time to experiment.
