Just got done trying the 290 tez. 77 grn(w) yielded petty loose groups with a clean barrel, but held fairly tight with a dirty barrel. What are y'alls thoughts on leaving a fouled barrel?

Imo the lead sled is just a scope killer. Scopes are designed to recoil against a shoulder that haves give to it. Lead Sled not so much. When speaking of powder measurements a good idea đź’ˇis to use all caps. As in WEIGHT or VOLUME. Harder to miss the all caps.

I never had much dif between clean and dirty barrel. Maybe you can shoot again with the same load, same bullet, but different sabot. See if you get different grouping. Did you recheck your scope mounts and rings for tightness?

Yeah everything checked out so I think I've narrowed it down to the sabot. Luckily I have some leftover black sabots so I'll shoot those until I get more 300s

TEZ sabot is a MMP HPH-24 sabot dyed blue. So if you need tighter that would be a HPH-12 for the next larger sabot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the sabot supplied with the expander mz, right?

Expander MZ 250gr and 300gr might be HPH-12 sabot. Measure it loaded. If its around .505-.506 its the HPH-12. They will be slighlty smaller than listed in our sabot size chart because the Barnes bullets are less than .452.

Do you have a nitride barrel? If so, you can probably leave it fouled. I wouldn't with any other barrel. Maybe try swabbing between shots and see how it groups on a clean barrel.

Yes i MIGHT leave it bh209 fouled if you have nitride. But maybe try knurling those bullets up a few thou and shoot a few groups. Couple groups with blue sabots and a couple with black sabots.

I know it's been a long time bit I'm back with a report, after three or four boxes of bullets with no consistent groups, swapping scopes, then swapping back, locktite, a whole bottle of solvent, and a sack of patches I think I finally found my problem. The second, third, and fourth shots without cleaning. Now I just need education on leaving bh209 in a nitride barrell

Negative, a bag of wet sand under the forestock, and a rolled up towel under the buttstock to stabilize the back end. I'm going to recruit my little sisters boyfriend to shoot it tomorrow to see if it's an operator error. Other than that I'm thinking about slinging it in a pond.

Breech plug getting worn? Burned out.

Oh most definitely weighted, I'm too particular for volume measurements
Most deff by weight is how I measure out all my ML rifle charges regardless of what powder or sub I'm using. But for my BP 12ga I see no need to get that technical so its adj vol measurers for that only.
I do take my weighed charges & Vol measure them & I'll take various Vol measured charges & weigh them for more precision & accuracy & educating myself on the differences between them.

Following... Take out all variables. check everything for looseness. Weigh powder. Seat projectile with an even pressure... Ie bounce a range road.
