My uncle dropped off an unfired still in the box Disc rifle he bought back in 97 or 98 when a local store was going out of business. I havent had much time to mess with it but can I shoot BH209 from this rifle? What kind of bullets seem to shoot good from them? I've always ran 50s or 52 cal and shot barnes bullets. Guess I'll need to measure the twist rate before ordering bullets for it.

Depends on the serial number. Early Disc stainless .45's with serial numbers under 5043 were 1-20 twist, or so I've been told. There are a lot of Knight guys on this site that can help you with load data.

You should get a Extreme bolt conversion or the Extreme bolt body and a Lehigh bare primer conversion kit. The Lehigh kit is pretty cheap. About $50 with an extra pack of vent liners. I got no idea what Knight would want for just the Extreme bolt body but the "Extreme conversion kit" is over $150. You can probably find them for less if you shop around.

Lehigh's parts site is having issues atm with Firefox but here is the contact info. Contact Us
This is the link to the parts needed. You can view them with Chrome.

You need these 3 parts to convert the Extreme bolt to bare primer but the plug does have 1 liner already. So you really only need 2 parts.

BTW the blued serial number cut off is much lower. Its like 2291 in blued for the cut off. Anything after that is supposed to be 1-30. If its a 1-20 it will shoot virtually any bullet available. Well it will stabilize them anyway. A 1-30 will struggle badly with 40cal bullets that are 1" or longer.

656 in the model number indicates its a blued 45cal. 756 would be SS
First number is barrel material
Second number is caliber....0 would be 50cal
Third number is barrel length.
Last letter is stock. C is for standard black composite. B would be for standard laminate.

My charge is 110 grains(volume) of B209, CCIM primer. A fair number of deer, coyotes, & other varmints have met this load.

Pretty coyote there. I'm definitely excited about this rifle and it sets next to my MK85, original wolverine in the safe. It may take me another year before I fork over the money to convert it to BH209.

Conversion is fairly cheap if you but from Lehigh, a lot cheaper then using Knights stuff.

Lehigh conversions are for red DISC type rifles and Mountaineer rifles. There are no reliable conversions for Knight plunger guns. All will leak and have some safety concerns as well.

I have a 45 cal extreme serial 997....what a shooter.....I use 125 gr 777 loose ffg....and the old 2 stage hydraulic soft points from harvester I believe....also use the 52 cal power stem breech plug....what a difference when the powder burns front to back! Best 3 shot group at 200 yards 1.5 in with 2 bullet holes touching.... never had a deer take a step after getting thumped by THOR!....Also use a Pentax lightseeker 30 4x16......AWESOME RIG!!!. Just tried the new 280 gr power belt ELR behind 145 gr of BH209.....no problem.....with the power stem figure 2350 fps.......that's 3300fpe....or my 450 Marlin......ouch!

Btw it's the stainless fluted version...bore is as smooth as glass.....paid Dicks $200 for it when they took over Galyans.....cleared their guns....bought 7 other guns....maxed out my credit card.....sold 6...still got the Knight and My Benelli SBE camo I got for $600!!!

That is a HUGE over load for that rifle. Ive never seen anyone get the Powerstem to work reliably with BH209.

Many years ago I talked to a metalurgist who stated all ML barrels are proofed to twice magnum charges on case some idiot double loads it....I have used 150 gr of 777 with no issues and on my omega used 180 gr of pyrodec pellets without hiccup only problem was the sabots could not handle the speed/ pressures......Knight barrels are over built and I have had no issues....use 150 gr 777 f fg in my 52 cal revolution without issue....2 in groups at 100yds....that is what they originally recommended as a max load before they dialed it back a few years later...lawyers no doubt....I would put the original knight extreme 45 cal against a paramount or rem 700 any day for performance and durability....just more breech fouling

Btw knight billed the 52 cal as the only ML capable of 3000+ ME with black powder substitute and the power stem....I'm sure they did their DD before releasing it......anyways the extreme breech plug had a tendency to misfire because of the flash hole....cost me 2 deer.....why I use the power stem...never an issue....just have to clean plug after every 6 shots.....but with BH209 think I can do 10.......clean it before going into the field with 1 primer shot for fouling....May not need to do this now with the BH209....of course my load choice is determined by my hunting terrain....but I started hunting on a trail next to train tracks so a 250+ yd shot is a possibility....so give me that elr load for that......I free handed a shot at 180 yards with 150gr f fg and a Hornady shock wave.....no problem!

Regardless, if you mention loads exceeding Knights specs i will mention its over. The Knight barrel is not even an inch OD for 5" of the shank. 45cal builds pressure faster than a 52. Quite a bit faster. Adding a Powerstem reduces the volume even more per inch of bore and creates an even longer powder column.

I still find it amazing the Powerstem works for you and had not for anyone else. Ive been shooting Knight 45s for quite awhile including sabotless with BH209. Ive had the 52s and the Powerstem. I cant imagine using a FPJ over a Lehigh bare primer setup or the Bestill bushing plug. There is simply no comparison and ive had them all.

The Parmount has one huge advantage over a Extreme 45.....The 1-22 twist which will smoke a 1-30 when shooting longer bullets. That is why mine are a 1-20. They will shoot nearly anything available. It is what currently wins many matches at Friendship inline completions. Aside from customs nothing else has come close.

My extreme is 1 in 20 .....one of the originals......also the average shooter won't remove the plug so it fills with fouling and altering each successive shot.....why I said I removed it often at the range....you can't clean the last 2+ inches of the barrel with it installed and since it burns front to back that's where the majority of the fouling accumulates...you also have to really shake the barrel when loading powder to get equal settling...just tapping the butt stock ain't enough.......I stand by my comments....I have used everything from flintlock to inlines....I have knights in 45,50,52...a Omega 50.....cap guns in 32 36,38 and my trust Hawken 54....used about every powder and pellet.....why I use loose....better accuracy due to the absence of air around the charge....slower burn.....higher velocity....used to crony loads why I stopped using 777 pellets....min 10% higher velocities with same weight loads....and more accurate...win win....tried using saboted 357 bullets in the 45....too dang fast...twist on rifle too fast......recoil doesn't phase me since I used to goose hunt with 3.5 in max dram loads and I shoot African calibers from the 9.3 to the 500 Jeffery and everything inbetween.....I always said if it hurts me to shoot it imagine what it's like on the other end! I want my game to drop on contact...I hate tracking hurt game.....why I gave up on bow hunting....last deer took 4 hrs to find....I want it to be lights out....better for me and more humane for the game.....but there are limits...why I don't hunt with my 338's or 450 Marlin on deer anymore....stick with my ML or a lever in 30-30 or 35 Rem......btw that 45 extreme is crazy fast and hits like lightning....why I refer to it as THOR....police stop me all the time to check me out with that beast of a scope during ML season......looks like a centerfire....think their jealous......last year took a 10 pointer frontal shot at 160 yards.....he dropped like a stone....that was the 150 gr of 777 f fg and that sweet 195gr hydraulic soft point.....bullet pancakes to .85in upon impact.....double diameter expansion...2 kinds of lead with a drop of hydraulic fluid in the center mixed with the lead....best soft point I ever used....bought 10 packages each for the 45 and 50 cal when they closed em out cause everyone was going to a ballistic tip......sorry for the rant but I love to share my experiences since the wife dont get it and I always hunt alone from squirrels with my 32 cal cap gun to my 54 flint lock....oh yeah I have a TC Renegade 50 converted to a 209 ignition and a 56 cal smooth bore...and a 10ga side by side cap gun.....too many guns....too few days in the year....
