"As I have been contacted by Hodgdon Powder AGAIN today, here's what they're saying about Blackhorn 209...First I contacted them in early May and was told it would be available in June, then I contaced them again the end of June and was told the end of July or early August, then once again I have been contacted by them again today and they are now saying MAYBE LATE SUMMER.Then they said they would not be able to produce enough for shooters thru 2022..Here's the e-mail to send complaints to as I can not do this alone:
[email protected]

I sent them ANOTHER email, even asked about the New 8 Oz Containers.

I can probably research this site and get the answer, but aren’t charge amounts for 777 and BH209 supposed to be very close?

I for one really like the Blackhorn but can't justify paying that much for it.
I can get Triple 7 2f, locally for $ 30.00 a pound.
I also found an online source for the 3f, same 30 bucks a pound. With the hazmat fee and shipping, a 3 pound order would come out to 40 bucks a pound. Still not cheap but.....

I just bought today at our local gun shop, T7 3 F for $36, and 250 RWS 1075 plus caps for $22 taxe inc. I know that’s a little high on the price but they have what I needed. They are also well stocked with smokeless powders for around $40 per lb.

Currently using 83 grains of Blackhorn, what would this be if I went to Triple 7?

You do not say which measurement your 83 grains of BH is. Is it weight or volume?

Assuming that it is weight, which is not the best thing to do. But, the standard conversion is a 120 gr by volume is equal to approx. 84 grains of volume. But. even that is not "for sure" as it is posssible for this factor to change from lot to lot of the powder.

Next, BH is a progressive burning, smokeless type powder so the weight of the projectile can figure into the performance factor. Since BH is progressive the powder performs more energetically with heavier projectiles than it does with lighter bullets.

T7 on the other hand is not a progressive burning powder. It burns at a normally give rate.

Making a math comparison is not difficult but only shooting at the range and preferably across a Chrono will tell you for sure.

He are some simple math thoughts.

What is the 83 grains of BH? volume or weight?

No matter the weight of the bullet will also play in to matching T7-2f with the 83gr (vol/Weight) of BH you are asking about if you are trying to match performance.

Doing the math...

I10 grains of T7-2f should work out to be 84.7 by weight

118 grains of BH by volume should be close to 82.6 by weight.

Again, I do not know if I am answering your question.

Didn't Hodgdon Triple 777 get its Name because 100 Grains by Volume Equals 77.7 Grains in Weight?

I had to go to our local Scheels this morning and just for chuckles I went to the muzzleloading area to check things out. XTP's are not an issue anymore, nor is T7 ffg and fffg. A sales person asked if he could help me and I asked about Blackhorn. He said they had it until a week ago and were told to box it up. That's all he offered. BUT, he says, we have plenty of the other subs. I told him I shoot Blackhorn and he said they may getting more but later, nearer the hunting season.

I can hunt a looooong time with the 209 I have so I'm not too worried but I know a lot of people are shooting it in this area and are probably going to be dismayed. In the reloading department they were heavy on Cheddite primers, $69.99/1000. Small Rifle Primers were the same per 1000. I'm good on all fronts but I can certainly understand the frustration that some folks are feeling. Apparently the whole friggin country took advantage of covid especially those in the sporting goods world.

The T7 powders I mentioned sell for $36.99/pound jug. And there's plenty.
