    Cracked laminate stock

I am surprised that the crack followed thru the trigger well opening.

Need help and have tons of questions about knight tk2000

Your TK has a jug choke or at least mine did. Pattern is controlled by choke. I am unaware of any aftermarket chokes but there may be some available. A 12 inch pattern with a factory choke at 30 yards is what I would judge to be very tight. An option for pattern density might be TSS shot in a...

    Scope ring/base torque?

Yes, proper torque is a necessity for rings and bases. Using a Fat wrench or a torque wrench that measures in inch pounds is also a necessity. It is also best to use the manufacturers recommendations for torque values. Most all ring and base screws are different sizes and grade material...

    2023 Illinois Firearm Season

I have 2- 45/70 CVA Scouts. One is a SML conversion and the other is original. I will continue to use the conversion during the 2 firearm seasons and the MZ season. It is a great rifle; I like it better than my HB Savage. Light and accurate.

Convert smokeless single shot rifle to a Muzzle loader

The H&R would be a good candidate. My friend has a Handi rifle that has been converted to 45. In a comparison his is noticeably heavier than my CVA.

Convert smokeless single shot rifle to a Muzzle loader

Sounds like a good rewarding job you have laid out for you. Be wary of over pressuring your breech and barrel at breech plug. I would like to see what your end results are. I have neither the equipment nor the machinist knowledge on how to complete a task like that. Have fun!

Convert smokeless single shot rifle to a Muzzle loader

Save yourself a lot of grief and buy a CVA Scout 45/70, send it off for a breech plug install and get the modules for it. Hankins, Schultz and a few others will do a good job for you.

    Difference between grams and grains

I also measured Black powder by volume before going to smokeless guns where you have to weigh charges carefully. You're describing the irregular granulation and the concentration of fines would have you benefit more by weighing the charges for a more consistent charge which would lend itself...

    bullet sizing

I would foul with 2 or 3 rounds fired. Dry nylon brush. Size for 2 finger push on start and one hand steady low resistance push with ramrod down barrel with breech plug removed for a push thru. No lube on wad or on bullet should be used. All bullets should be checked prior to use for any...

    .40 vs .45 ?

I wish Illinois would allow 40 cal. The 275-300 gr 40's bullet to bore have a better BC . Smaller diameter and a longer length give it the advantage. A .400 195 gr Barnes or a .400 200gr Hornady in a harvestor 45 light blue perform well also. Sabots require a wait time for next shot,

    Smokeless barrels and prefits

I would agree but that is what was stated. I know I bulged my small shank 50 barrel with 66grains of IMR4198 shooting a 458 JHP rem and an orange mmp sabot behind a stock savage ramrod with a brass bullet seater screwed in. It was a vicious recoil and the barrel stayed together but bulged for...

    Smokeless barrels and prefits

Barrel diameter at breech and length before taper matter in the pressure capability along with shank, barrel nut or no barrel nut and receiver style along with caliber all matter. The 65 grain load of IMR4198 and a 275 is what Jeff recommends on his CVA hinge gun conversion. There are so many...

    Smokeless barrels and prefits

Here is a question answered by Randy Wakeman years ago. I in no way recommend a savage barrel be loaded greater than 35,000 PSI as a max load. This was a controlled test for safety standards only. Stay safe. Q. Is the Savage 10ML-II safe? A. Not only is it "safe," it is the safest, strongest...
