    Barnes 195 BX

Does anyone know minimum velocity Barnes reccomends to properly expand on the .45 cal 195gr Expander? Anyone with first hand experience at extended ranges /lower terminal velocities on game?

    Blackhorn Density

I've always measured by weight up until 2 seasons ago when I noticed my load tubes looked fuller than the previous year and bottle. So I pulled some of my loads out still measured from the previous year to compare and sure enough there was definitely a difference. I called Western and spoke at...

    Blackhorn 209

I e always weighed my charges as well and didn’t run into a variation until the day I actually second guessed myself.. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Blackhorn 209

I spoke with Ballistics tech @ Western last Winter after noticing difference in a new bottle of weight vs volume. After a lengthy discussion was informed that Wester had to sign a legal waiver acknowledging there were discrepencies between lot numbers in regards to weight vs volume and the...

.40 200 SST terminal performance questions

I also have taken 3 large deer with these. MZ was 2365fps. #1 @ 35yds(2200fps impact)-downward in between shoulders at base of neck, bullet lodged in spine mangled >1" expansion after traveling 6" through bone..DRT(obviously). #2 @ 220yds(1500fps impact) behind shoulder .5" in & 1" exit...He...

225gr 44 cal Hornady FTX on whitetails out to 150yards (maybe 200)?

I just want to point out that according to the several techs I've spoken with at Hornady...The velocity range posted by Hornady for their bullets is what they were tested for. Some higher and some lower depending upon cartridges they might be used with. This simply means they functioned as...

    Sabots, MMPs or Harvester? Why?

I shoot both depending upon the rifle. Frankly I let the gun decide which it likes best. Sometimes there simply isn't an option as mentioned...I have some bores that are so loose and others that are too tight to use another brand. Obviously there's simply no way to remain brand loyal when you...

    Knights new finish

They've tried that...Break actions simply can't compete in long range accuracy as bolt/plunger guns. Knight customers know this...CVA/Traditions/TC customers are willing to compromise range for more compactness and the myth of cleaning ease. Availability and popularity also comes into play...

    Huntsman Plug?

I’m sure you’ve helped with your share of testing them as well and guys in this board as well as a few others benefit from those efforts:)

    Huntsman Plug?

Busta I had Cecil make me a custom one with Ventliner out of his plug and it shoots beautiful groups with BH209, 777 pellets and whatever else tried this winter down to 1 degree F (not counting wind chill). Funny part is I built this shorty for my kid and he ended up using another "shorty" H&R...

Knight LRH Accuracy and breech plug advice

PS - I also torque these actions down like Savages to 35" pounds. -Set Barrel in stock as mentioned under C hanger at rear. -Thread and Finger tighten both screws. -stand rifle vertical with Butt on ground so action stays rearward when tightening. -(While squeezing barrel into stock channel...

Knight LRH Accuracy and breech plug advice

Although finding the right load, BP flame channel etc probably are factors, I'd look at the rear action screw(exclusive to this model) and ensure you are installing the "C" hanger(part#CC1) that pulls the rear tang down correctly. The ears go above the tang by sliding barrel into them first and...

Cracked Muzzleloader and deformed BH209 Plug

Well put in elegant terms.... If you really want to be certain its a casting mark, simply sand/file the ridge down and you'll see it disappear and then just paint it to cover it...If it's a crack then of course it won't and you can send it back to CVA again for a return. If it were me, I...

    Leaving gun dirty with BH209?

I agree BH209 is corrosive if left uncleaned for as short of period as even overnight depending upon humidity/moisture it encounters. The scenario mentioned earlier in which the rifle is fired and reloaded and left like that a couple of days has personally happened to me as well with the same...

Has there ever been a study on what bullets stand up well at max load and 25 to 30 yard range?

.452 300xtp non mag consistently exits every deer I've shot with golf ball sized exits when pushed up to 2238fps at <25 yds... this bullet has also worked just as well down to 1700fps.

    Good luck!

    how loose can sabots be?

Just go to a .430 bullet. The Hornady 265gr FP is designed for the 444 Marlin and would be ideal for what you are trying to do...

    44 Caliber 265g FTX--80g Blackhorn

IME the 265 FTX's and 300SST have the same trajectory when shot at the same velocity out to 200yds(farthest I've shot them). Both bullets are nearly the same length so the 300SST's added 35grns is offset by it's increased frontal diameter much like a .30-06 vs .270. I've taken numerous deer with...

    Range Report

It sounds as if you have a slightly larger land diameter than the harvester sabots can handle. IME the tan MMP's are tighter fitting and probably your best bet as far as sabots. If the 200 sst shoots decent, I think you'll find the 200xtp in that tan MMP will shoot beautifully with the same...

    measuring BH209?

IME, BH209 isn't the smallest and has the least dust of any BP sub I've used except "Pellets" which I believe the TC tubes were designed for use with and hence the problem... -FWIW, almost any powder or load you choose causes this problem because most sabots are narrow at the base and allow the...
