    BH209 Revisited!

Wow, how much for 8oz? If I ever shoot the 10 pounds I have I'll have to re think my powder choice. Wont tell you guys that I paid under $200 for each 5 pound keg I picked up off the local classified ads twice from the same person when prices were crazy high but then again he sold me 500 pounds...

Casting question Maxi ball & Rb

You need to know your pot temp so you need a thermometer. Getting your pot temp up will solve your problem plus you will get better consistency between casting patches.

Casting round balls out of wheel weights?

Weighting cast bullets let you know your casting consistently and if you'r getting consistent bullets between different lead lots. Doesn't mean you have to weight every ball or bullet but it's smart to weight a few so you know if there is a big enough weight difference between lead pots to...

    Free hand practice needed

At the range I frequent there is a steel plate at 100 yards about the size of a center of mass target. It doesn't matter what I'm shooting I always pop a few rounds at the plate off hand before I leave the range. Could be with a muzzy, center fire rifle, pistol, iron sites or scope. Anymore I...

    Wolf forearm screw tension.

An inch pound torque wrench should be a tool that every guy serious about his firearms should have. I torque all my rile action screws to a set inch pound that I keep track of on each rifle log sheet whether its a muzzy or center fire rifle. Most of my rifles are the same torque on the action...

Getting back into muzzleloading which rifle to get ?

I really like my Traditions Vortek Strikerfire rifle. With a scope the slide to cock the rifle is a lot easier to get at then a hammer under the scope plus I was able to set the scope in low rings since there is no worry about clearing the hammer. The rifle shoots 300 grain XTP bullets into a...

    October Country Muzzle loading

Tried calling October but there not open today so I went to looking at other places. Buffalo Arms had the pillow ticking I wanted and an Ampco nipple so I ordered from them and 3 hours later got a shipping notification and tracking number. Guess I'll let the October order ride as they had a TC...

Things are slow--even truck is interesting

Taste like a lean pork. Trick is to get the hide off without touching the meat to much then change rubber gloves. They stink and have a sent gland that can pollute the heck out of the meat if one isn't careful but all that is removed while skinning.

Things are slow--even truck is interesting

I got bored over the holidays and decided it was time to see what my old .54 New Englander could do so I ordered a couple bullet molds and am now messing around with patches, powder volume, lubes and trigger trying to get it to shoot a group. I have to keep myself entertained for 6 weeks until...

    Old Timney trigger value

What about a good barrel scrub with some JB Bore paste or Iosso paste? I've seen some pretty bad barrels that shot very well after a little bore paste treatment.

    October Country Muzzle loading

Anyone use this company? I placed an order last Sunday, my CC still shows pending and my order history on there site shows "awaiting fulfillment". I know I can't expect Amazon shipping from everyone but I don't expect an order to set for 5 days either. Wondering if I should cancel and get the...

What I have learned this week

Well heck I shoot a Lee C452 300RF out of a Crushed Rib sabot in my inline 50 and while accuracy is good maybe it could be better removing the gas check base or adding a check to the bullet? Now I have something else to play around with I guess.

    Accuracy troubles

Scope is just a Vortex Crossfire II but I did just take it off a 308 that was shooting clover leaf groups at 100 yards. All base, mount and ring screws have been torqued. Not saying its not the scope but it's unlikely. I will go back through the mounting as a double check just in case.

    Accuracy troubles

My patch measurements are compressed measurements, the .013 ticking is blue strip about 20 years old from a fabric store. I do have some .015 and .018 ticking coming to try. I have also ordered a new nipple. My shot patches look good enough to load again, hardly any black on them and just a...

    Accuracy troubles

No it doesn't. Rifle is an early 90's model? Also I found your 2018 post about reworking the trigger on a New Englander. I took mine apart and polished all the bearing surfaces plus measured the tumbler like you showed in your post. Mine measured .567. I didn't measure trigger pull before the...

    Accuracy troubles

I put a 3-9 scope on it so I'm good. Still had issues at 50 with the iron sights.

    Accuracy troubles

I decided to play around with my old TC New Englander 54 cal 1-48 twist rifle. I mostly shot Ball-ET's out of it 20 some years ago and as I remember the accuracy was good. Since I got back into muzzy hunting I have been shooting some fancy inline that might as well be a center fire rifle. So I...

What’s a decent group size at 100 yards?

At one time I could but not anymore. If I'm shooting open sights I sight in at 50 were I can still shoot a tight group then hope to be able to see the target at 100.

What’s a decent group size at 100 yards?

Boy I guess I'm in the minority around here as I would say 1 1/2" group at 100 yards sucks and I would be messing with the powder charge and sabot combo to shrink it down. 3 holes touching at 100 yards is a start. Ya guys say its good enough for hunting or a kill zone is way bigger but I say in...
