    Encore 209x50 ProHunter Questions

I’ve owned a number of Encore muzzleloaders and have mounted scopes on many more. They all shoot very low. I don’t know if it’s the barrel contour by the breech that does this or something else. I personally use the Burris signature zee rings. I use the inserts in to raise point of impact up to...

    Your Thoughts?

Using a Remington STS primer, you should be able to use the o-ring for sealing. It is a short primer and I haven’t had an issue using it in the Optima, Accura and Apex. It’s an excellent primer.

    CVA Wolf or Optima

Owned both. Both excellent in their own right, but I much prefer the Optima. The break open latching on the Wolf is located on the front of the trigger guard. It tends to snag on things causing it to open while hunting. The Optima is on the back of the guard and haven’t had any problems...

    CVA guys

I’ve owned both the old and new style Optimas. The main reason CVA went to the rear opening design is that too many guns were being accidentally opened while carrying. It happened to me quite a few times. The front release would catch on clothing when I carried it on top of my shoulder or...

    scope shopping....

All those scopes would be great choices. The VX Freedom may have a little better glass and just a touch less eye relief but still having plenty. I’ve owned both the 40mm Redfield and the 50mm Freedom and was happy with both of them.

    Shockwave 250 gr. Bonded

Barnes 250 TEZ if you want a blood trail. By far the best muzzleloading bullet made right now.

    Accura MR Nitride

The bullet hit him about 2” below the white throat patch, dead center of the neck.

    Accura MR Nitride

I will tell you the story. I was videoing my nephew on this particular hunt. I was in the tree above him in my Summit Viper. The bucks came in from my side of the tree (behind my nephew) down a dried up creek bed. He handed his MR up to me and told me to bust the buck and I swapped the...

    Accura MR Nitride

Probably not a perfect test of this bullet. We did take a doe with the bullet later this season and it destroyed the vitals on a broadside shot. The lungs were shredded and the base had a pass through while the petals were just under the skin on the far side. The buck pictured went down...

    Accura MR Nitride

Bagged this 11 point late in Indiana muzzleloader season 120 yards with a Lehigh Defense 265 grain controlled fracture bullet and 90 grains of Blackhorn. This buck was traveling with a younger 10 point I had seen quite a few times during season Even though my MR shoots the Barnes a little...

Most accurate In Line, for the money

The hunting bullet you choose to shoot will dictate the sabot you want. I find in the Optimas I shoot with the Barnes 250 TEZ, they shoot best with a Harvester black smooth sabot. The Barnes is a .451 bullet which is a bit smaller in diameter than other bullets. You’ll need a sabot that will...

Most accurate In Line, for the money

Most of your modern inlines shoot equally well. Finding what sabot/bullet combo that works in your particular bore at the speed it likes to leave is the key. The best bang for your buck is an Optima V2. Light, handles well, easy to clean and a great breech plug. I love my Encore but they aren’t...

    Late season muzzleloader buck

Thanks, fellas!!  Got pretty lucky on this one.  Marty, I was hunting a couple of farms over, but basically the same area as last year. I love hunting Southern Indiana. Those sticker points seem to be a trend in this place I hunt.  I've harped about Barnes bullets for years on here, but these...

    Late season muzzleloader buck

Didn't see a shooter all year until two days left in muzzleloader season.  I was videoing my nephew when this guy came up a creek bed behind us.  I had a better angle so my nephew handed his MR up to me even though I had my MR laying on the front of my climber.  He was wanting to see how the 265...

    Whacha got?

1895 marlin 45-70 shooting Winchester 300 grain ammo at 50 yards first target then 325 grain Hornady Leverevolution  ammo at 125 yards.  I am amazed that a lever gun can be this accurate.  Growing up, I was always told to go with a bolt action rifle for accuracy and that lever guns were for...

    Whacha got?

Thunderstick 1895 Marlin 45-70 Big Loop Here is my Lever.  Very accurate and handles like a dream.  Enjoys spitting out 325 Hornady Leverevolutions.

    7MM Remington Mag

I shoot my 7 Mag all the time. It has recoil, but it’s no more than a muzzleloader shooting 100 grains of Blackhorn and a 250 grain bullet. I guess hunting with a muzzleloader for so many years made hunting with my rifle feel a little unnatural, but there was no denying the effectiveness.

    7MM Remington Mag

Thanks Jon.  It was an awesome feeling seeing him coming through the woods. I feel like I won the lottery with the amount of hunters surrounding my land.

    7MM Remington Mag

Thanks Bob.  I feel very fortunate to  have harvested that buck.  I agree with you on the recoil.  Probably too much gun for whitetail.  I bought it primarily as an elk gun and haven't gotten to hunt with it til this year.  I have a Hawke Frontier 2.5-15x50 sitting on top of it.  It is set up...
