    Cow elk hunt in Idaho

I just found an all lead bullet that shoots great out of my TC Bone Collector. It's the TC Maxi Ball. 370 grains of good old fashion lead. I have not shot an animal with it yet but I have zero worries of how an all lead bullet will perform if I put it where it counts. Right now I'm shooting mine...

TC Maxi Ball/Maxi Hunter For Elk???

I shot the Maxi-Ball today at the range. With 777 FFFG 110 grains, it shot very well. I think that is this years elk load! Thanks for the input!

TC Maxi Ball/Maxi Hunter For Elk???

I was shooting a CVA 50 with 295 grain power belts. Now that I have a Thompson Center Bone Collector, I want to find a better bullet for deer and especially elk. Have any of you guys used the TC Ball or the Maxi hunter? What did you think? Any other recommendations on the best 50 cal bullet for...

    Elk Bullet Question

You're right about the 230 grains! I had all of my 45 acp ammo out yesterday and that was still on my mind. We shoot 295 grain bullets not 230.

    Elk Bullet Question

I ordered the wrong bullets for my muzzle loader. I ordered 230 grain hollow points instead of 230 grain aero tips. However, I like the way the hollow points shoot. Will the hollow points be just as effective on elk as the aero tips or will I not get enough penetration. I won't take a shot over...

A Couple Of Years In Now....

....and I'm thinking about switching from my CVA Optima II to a T/C Pro Hunter FX. I have never really liked the CVA from the first range trip when the rear sight fell off. Besides that, it seems just okay. What can I look to gain by going to the TC Pro Hunter? I would really hope I would get...

I Was Watching A Guy Shoot At The Range...

I did notice what powder he was using. It was Hodgdon Triple 7. He had an inline muzzle loader. The kind that when you pull the trigger, the firing pin moves forward and hits the primer. Sorry, I'm very new at this and I don't know all of the correct terminology.

I Was Watching A Guy Shoot At The Range...

I finally made it to the range to shoot my CVA Optima for the first time. The weather was not very good but things went okay. I learned a lot. After I packed everything up and was ready to go, I thought I'd take a few minutes and watch another guy that was shooting his muzzle loader to see if...

    Maximum Powder Charge????

Recoil is not a problem. I hunt with a 300WSM. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut hole that the recoil from my CVA Optima II loaded with 120gr. BH209 and a 300 grain bullet will not even be close to the recoil of my Browning X-Bolt 300WSM. Not even close. Just saying.. I just prefer the...

    Maximum Powder Charge????

Good info right there and from everyone. Thanks. I'll go ahead and start out at 100. My goal was to be able to shoot out to 200 yards very effectively.

    Maximum Powder Charge????

How much accuracy difference do you think there will be with the lighter charge?

    Maximum Powder Charge????

I'm getting ready to start shooting my new CVA Optima II. I'll be shooting Blackhorn 209, Blackhorn CVA QR Breech Plug Kit, CCI Magnum 209 Primers with Hornady FPB 300 grain bullets. I'm a Magnum kind of guy. I shoot a Benelli 12 gauge and a Browning 300 WSM. Here's my question....is there any...

    Getting Ready To Buy Accessories

The BH209 breech plug and the blackhorn powder looks like the way to go. Hornet22savage, I'm going to do some research (probably start another thread) on what grain and type of bullet to use for elk and deer. If I decide on 350 grains, I might take you up on your generous offer. Thank you...

    Getting Ready To Buy Accessories

No powder pellets, no sabots and no scope. That's all I know for sure. I also know I want to shoot the exact same for deer that I shoot for elk. Just like with my bow, every arrow and every broad head I shoot are the exactly the same. Just keeps things easier that way.

    Getting Ready To Buy Accessories

I'm getting ready to buy everything I need to go with my new CVA Optima II with a 26" barrel. It will be used for elk and deer hunting in Colorado. I should add that I am a very experienced hunter. I have just always hunted with a bow or a rifle. My friend is also new to Muzzleloading. Last year...

    Barrel Length

I just got back from Sportsmans Warehouse. I bought the CVA Optima II Stainless with the 26" barrel. The barrel is fluted and it only weighs 4 ounces more than the 24" Wolf. Sunday I'm going to go with my buddy and shoot it. I'm going to use his powder, bullets and stuff and then start deciding...

    Barrel Length

I went and looked at them again tonight. The TC Impact looks very cheap and I have ruled it out. I'm leaning towards the CVA Optima in the fluted stainless barrel but I have not ruled out the CVA Wolf. CVA Optima II 26" Stainless Fluted-$259 CVA Wolf 24"-$169 I'm buying one of them tomorrow.

I've been looking at the Optima also. They are all very reasonably priced. The scopes on all of my hunting rifles are more.

    Barrel Length

I don't know the load. Sorry. I'll ask him at work tomorrow. I'm looking at the TC Impact or the CVA Wolf in stainless. I don't want to spend a ton of money until I see how serious we get about it. It's going to be hard enough to get the time between bow hunting and rifle season. But no matter...

    Barrel Length

I don't know what powder or bullet yet. I'll start off using what my buddy is using and progress through the off season. My main concern was if the 24 inch barrel would give the desired results for elk hunting or if the 26" would be a lot better. I would always prefer the shorter gun as it would...
