    Blackhorn 209 Cabela's in stock

That’s crazy. 160 bucks a pound for a powder that costs no more to make than any other smokeless nitrocellulose based powder. Just has some sulfur & potassium nitrate added. Both low cost ingredients. Other than easy cleaning, I don’t see any advantage and have had ignition problems with the...

1.25" Group with CVA Wolf V2

So far I haven’t found anyone who didnt love those little guns. My wife was shooting 3/4” groups yesterday on my home 75 yard range, with about anything she put in it. 777 She’s a master class traditional ML shooter. This is her first in-line.

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

I’d probably do the same, though I don’t have a 45 inline. Plenty of 40 & 45 traditional. curious though. When you say “ boring”, what specifically is boring about using 40 bullets in a 50? Not as fun as a 45? Was thinking of trying them (155 gr Xpb) in my wife’s CVA as she’s recoil...

WANTED/ISO Knight disc extreme wood stock

Anyone have a wood standard stock laying around? Not thumbhole. prefer classic style straight comb. thinking of replacing my FG camo stock. thx

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

Yep, you use what you’re comfortable with. I couldn’t see any advantage in hunting using it over T7 or BP. and BH isn’t expensive if you only shoot it occasionally. But peace of mind is exactly why I’ll never hunt with it again. I shot some deer and hogs with it, but had two bloopers on deer...

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

That’s very true. It’s a very temperamental propellant, that costs several times what others cost. The ease of cleaning is nice, but not at the expense of reliability. I think you’re spot on that it requires resistance of a heavy bullet, hard tamp and tight fitting sabot to work well. I...

I try not to talk to guns. People look at you funny. 🙄

    Shooting .45 200 gr bullets

I used XTP 44 & 45 200-225 for awhile. They worked ok on heart lung shots, but tended to blow apart in (my preferred) shoulder shots. Have gone to all copper bullets for hunting, now that stay together regardless of where you choose to hit em. Barnes XPBs are what I use now. The accuracy was...

    Shooting .45 200 gr bullets

I posted the wrong pic. That’s a 245 gr hornady interlock they made for the 450 bushmaster. It explodes at higher velocity also. Like the 225 FTX.

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

Yes, I have always cleaned it with a drill bit, and it’s always clean and dry, before I start shooting. this Rifle just doesn’t like BH209 with light bullets. And neither do I. 🙄 Apparently there are quite a few others having similar results. hunting with a rifle that may or may not shoot...

    Shooting .45 200 gr bullets

Yep wrong pic. The sst does the same thing at velocity. Loaded sone for a friends 45 LC rifle and they blew up on hogs.

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

I think you answered your head scratch with the heavier bullets requirement in 50 cal guns. 😊 its not user error. I’ve cleaned them and use alcohol or hoppes to swab when I need to. I’ve been a gunsmith for 45 years and competitive shooter longer than that. I shoot 2 ML matches a month...

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

That’s what I’m thinking. It works sometimes. I was wondering if a tight fitting wad over the powder would create the needed pressure. the price has become outrageous for it too. I would just like to shoot up what I have. Powder shouldn’t be that temperamental. Especially at 140 bucks a pound.

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

Thanks, I’ll try them, but prefer loose powder. Might find a load that works though. I shoot light bullets, for the low recoil. both shoulders bad from shooting, rodeo wrecks and a plane crash. I‘ll shoot up this BH but won’t buy it again. Probably just shoot Swiss BP. As much as I buy of...

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

I’m using winchester 209s. They’re long enough to seal in my breech plug and pretty hot, though not quite as hot as the 209M or 209A federal. Much easier to clean. There’s a shim setup for adapting to shorter primers, but don’t recall where I saw it. but a powder you can’t light with a...

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

Thanks for your input. That where I am now, but would like to shoot up the BH209 I have. And the cleaning (lack of) was nice when I used it. Just don’t trust it anymore. Haven’t ever tried white hots or pioneer. Have had pretty good results with T7, but what I have is old (10 yrs) and I...

What sabots were you using? maybe your bore is tighter than my knight.

BH209 and light <200 gr bullets?

Lehigh bare primer plug with replaceable flash hole inserts. MM & harvester, WW209 primers. and yes I clean everything after every shooting session.

    Shooting .45 200 gr bullets

They do indeed. This is why. That cavity apparently pushes everything out on impact: even at moderate velocities. didn’t get good accuracy from them either. Might be a good handgun bullet, but not a ML choice.

    Shooting .45 200 gr bullets

I had the same experience with the FTX. They have a hollow cavity enclosed in them. Might unbalance them at higher rpm’s .. also pretty rapid expansion at fairly low speeds.
