    Good laugh

I am a JW. I was inferring that we put our finger over the peep hole so you can’t see us standing on your porch in our nice suit. Sorry if you think we are a pain. We mean no harm. If I knew you were a muzzle loader enthusiast I’m sure we could talk our ears off.

Best Loads for Knight Disc Extreme

The load used for the antelope was 95 grains (volume) 777 FFF, 300 grain Speer Gold Dot, MMP Sabot, Remington Cleanbore primer. Didn’t know what hit him. DIT.

Best Loads for Knight Disc Extreme

Thanks MrTom! Wild horses were walking within yards of us while I was dressing it out. It was quite a memorable hunt. Antelope are my favorite big game animal to hunt. Too bad it takes a lifetime to get a tag where I live. Sorry the photo is blurry.

Best Loads for Knight Disc Extreme

I had drawn a limited entry antelope hunt years back and couldn’t get my rifles shooting as well as I wanted so I grabbed my Knight Disc Elite. Left the house at 8:00 a.m. and was home by 11:00 a.m..

Have modern Muzzleloaders become to modernized?

The reason for debate on this topic is simple: Wildlife officials do not know how to manage game when there are too many hunters for the game being offered. At least that is what I see in my state. I can see the whole thing becoming as in other countries, only the rich or major land owners will...

Have modern Muzzleloaders become to modernized?

Where I live this has been a heated debate for some time. The advancements in archery equipment seems to go unnoticed. The question being is “where do we draw the line in what we regard as primitive.” Should we go back to throwing stones, spears or the use of sling shots? Archery has changed...

Spring 2023, where are you hunting?

If I draw a tag, antelope and mule deer. Saw a lot of turkeys while hunting deer in 2022 so maybe I’ll give them a go. Can’t afford other states so I’m at the mercy of my own. It’s getting harder here to draw any hunting permit.

    Spit Patch or?

Saliva seems to be the method of choice and it does have a natural lubricant. Windex has ammonia and isopropyl has a flash point. I wonder if I could find a “Mr Chemistry Set” and come up with something that cleans as well as lubricates. Maybe some natural oils or something. Spit balling here.

    Spit Patch or?

I was wondering if you experts in the field could give your opinion on patching between shots while using 777 FFF with sabot. I have read that some use their own concoction and others use spit. What are most of you using on your patch? Getting older and don’t have a lot of spit left.

    777 shelf life

Working in the aerospace industry I learned that propellants are temperature and humidity sensitive. I’ve always stored my propellants in the basement away from moisture. In a cabinet if possible. If you call the manufacturer and ask some pointed questions they will explain why this happens and...

    777 shelf life

Went to the range with a friend who had a new jug of 777 FFF. I was shooting a two year old jug of same. I was not grouping well so I borrowed some of his new powder. Groups went back to normal.

    hand warmers

Still have a couple of those lighter fluid warmers. Still in the red bag and still have a big jug of fluid. They get pretty toasty.

    So..... why a muzzleloader?

When I was a young boy I would see the neighbor dressed in buckskins every November packing his vehicle for his mule deer hunt. I was intrigued as the bucks he brought home were on the large side and antlers were strategically placed around his yard. Then I saw the movie “Jeremiah Johnson” and I...
