How i clean a Sidelock Muzzleloader

I don't shoot quite as much as you Lewis, so the T-shirts I ruin working on the old hobby farm keeps up with my shooting habits. I'm just glad I'm not the only resourceful fellow....lol!!

Triple 7 in a caplock rifle

I ended up with 4lbs of T7 donated by a friend. I used a hotshot nipple and CCI caps without any problems for some random plinking. The things I noticed was a I didnt have to swab as often and my wife didnt compain when I cleaned my rifle in the kitchen.

    Lyman recall

Glad those pictures were posted. I was curious to see what the failure looked like. ^^^That was my first thought as well, although a low quality casting could be at fault too or a combo of those two.

    Simple & Easy Deer Jerky

I will give that a try if the weather ever breaks around here.

    Tag soup again.

I agree with that idea 100%. Planning to cut firewood from the larger limbs and use the tops as habitat for critters. Just wanted to ad my prevoius typical deer hunts were under 50 yards. Last year, even before the tree harvest, I did not get a chance for a shot due to extremely high winds in...

    Dixie Gun Works

Placed an order with them a few months back for a couple parts and some spring stock. Their catalog has a large number of parts and accessories, plus a wealth of knowledge in the back, well worth the $5.00

    Simple & Easy Deer Jerky

I got this recipe from a friend who does quite a bit of cooking, grilling, smoking and canning wild game; 3 simple ingredients; Deer, low sodium soy sauce and Mrs Dash I used loin, but he typically uses roast or some other cut as the "back straps" are too precious to him for grilling. Cut meat...

    Tag soup again.

We had the trees harvested off of our hobby farm to free up some cash for maintenance & our daughter some college money. It really disrupted the deer, their patterns of movement and bedding areas. I did end up getting a small buck second season, but at a much longer range than I had grown...

    Cheapo muzzleloader scope package

I'm a firm believer you get what you pay for in optics. We just had a similar discussion at deer camp this last season. In the early 90's I had a Simmons sighted in, went hunting and like magic it was 15 inches too high the very next day. I am very protective of my equipment and the only thing I...

    Ladder Stands

I do the same thing, it seems to work very well when hid between a cluster of trees. The "buddy" stands sold at Rural King and sometimes Menards go on sale after hunting season and/or Christmas for well under $100.

    tc hawken 50cal flintlock

I have good luck with the 250gr R.E.A.L. on top of 75gr of 777 in my caplock. I use 60gr of Goex in my flintlock, however I would likely bump that up if I tried hunting with it. I believe LEE makes a R.E.A.L / round ball combo mold.

Just opened mine and it's threaded.

    Fast Twist Barrel

Just a FYI to all. GM still has some 50 cal. LRH in the white, no breech plug or accessories installed for $115. They were on sale for $93 this weekend.

    Budget rifle recommendations

I agree...you simply cannot go wrong with Leupold. I have a few Leupolds and love them all, never a single issue.

    Scored a .32 Cherokee barrel

I would like to know how they shoot too. I've always wanted a small caliber/bore T/C.

    58

I did not fully explain, it is a 58 cal minie stuffed in a 20ga shotgun shell, thus making it a home made slug. I started making the slugs 2 years ago until I could find a traditional muzzleloader for hunting. Unfortunately, I did not get the T/C Big Bore in time to do any shooting or testing...

    58

That Navy arms is a nice looking rifle! I have thought often of buying the Jim Bridger kit and putting together a nice 58 cal Hawken with a 1 1/8 barrel. Track sells the kits and Pecatonica River will make one up in flintlock halfstock (called just to make sure). I recently bought a T/C Big...
