    POSTAL MATCH FUN

I understand your desire to keep things simple. HOWEVER ... I make an appeal to you to separate out stock/original Omega barreled rifles from all of you with custom/smokeless/saboted/fancy scopes/etc high dollar rifles that so many of you claim to be able to consistently shoot sub MOA groups...

    POSTAL MATCH FUN

That sounds like fun! I would also suggest different categories of bullet types: round balls, lead or lead alloy conicals, jacketed, sabots, etc.

    EXTREME LONG RANGE

So how accurate are balance beam scales compared to the high dollar digitals?

    Omega vs. CVA

I have, and like, both both. Here in Colorado we are not allowed to hunt with scopes. The comb on the Optima is too high for me to comfortably shoot with open/peep sights, and CVA doesn't sell a stock with a lower comb. Therefore, the Omega is my go-to hunting rifle.

    huge velocity differences !

Swamp, I am in the dark about drop tubes. Just how do they help with consistency? How much of a benefit can be expected? Do serious target shooters use them?

    CO draw deadline coming up

Oh yeah, gotta go through this every year for deer, elk, and antelope: - Read the unnecessarily complicated regulations to keep updated on the ridiculous changes that have been made (I am convinced that they have all been written by former IRS employees!) - Study the detailed statistics to...

Anyone out there ever use a big bore ML for small game hunting

My hunting buddy Mike tells the following story: While out elk hunting in the Colorado mountains with his .50 TC Triumph and Powerbelt bullet, he spots a blue grouse up in a nearby tree. Doing a quick calculation to avoid damaging any precious meat, he holds just a little high on the head. Not...

    BH209 hunting loads

To really cut back on conical bullet weight, and therefore felt recoil, consider one cast from the Lee 50 cal REAL mold 250 grain; or they also make a 320 grain of the same design. I have never gotten decent accuracy with either, but I recall others reporting good groups and effective results on...

    BH209 hunting loads

I read somewhere recently that reducing bullet weight lowers recoil more than reducing the powder charge. Seems to me that you will need to SIGNIFICANTLY lower BOTH to ever approach the mild recoil of a .243. FWIW Bestill (a highly regarded gun builder) told me that a load of 80 grains of BH209...

    Blackhorn Frustration

May I suggest a different take on all of this? Everything that you have described as BH209 problems seems totally normal to me! And yes, I am big fan of BH209. When I started shooting it several years ago, I too was shocked at the large amount of residue left after only one shot on a clean bore...

    Luck? Faith?

Rather than luck, I'm going to call it Providence. I've heard the song before, but didn't pay attention to the words. Just now listened to it on YouTube - what a beautiful song - it brought tears to my eyes. After all that you and your wife have been through, it's got to be especially meaningful...

    Mt.Lion hunting

A cot with a good inflatable pad on top is a total game changer! It let's me sleep as well as in my bed at home. Plus, you get the huge benefit of badly needed storage space underneath. Just buy some proper fitting totes and slide them in.

    .22 LR Problems and Questions

I have no advice to offer, but I hope you can figure out what's wrong and get it remedied. Ten years ago I was looking to buy a .22 LR for kids with a good trigger for as little as possible. Ended up buying a Savage MKII Youth, serial no. 161xxxx. I also have only shot a couple hundred rounds...

    Sighting in techniques?

I do my target shooting in a remote part of the Pawnee National Grasslands in northern Colorado, so I have to provide all my own equipment. Several years ago, I made a "portable" shooting bench and it's been working very well. The reason for the quotation marks is because it weighed right at 70...
