    CEB 40 Caliber 240g Maximus

I’ll provide my experience with them. I used that bullet in my Knight a few years ago on a mule deer hunt. Shot a buck with it and the bullet performance was as advertised. I wouldn’t say there was any more meat loss than on any other muzzleloader shot deer I’ve taken. I was impressed with the...

.40 cal Bullet Performance at Black Powder Velocities?

I agree with .45-70....ditch the sabot and do a .40 barrel if you’re wanting to shoot a .40 bullet. I tried running .40 bullets in the crushed rib sabot in my .45 and had problems with sabot failure when I started to push them harder. Sabots started coming apart and this is in a 1:20 twist. I’ve...

    Shooting sabotless....bullet recommendations.

    I use a poly wad .03 thickness.

    Shooting sabotless....bullet recommendations.

Parker’s fit perfectly down my ultra lite .45 without sizing (may not be the same for your barrel though). The 270 grain Parker Emax shoot about 1/2 inch group at 100 yards for me. They have a .015 jacket thickness so they engage the rifling very easily when fired. I’ll be testing some of the...

    The new Knight Perigrine

That’s the option I went with and I’ve been very happy with it. No more issues with 209 primers sticking in the bolt face. Jeff is great to work with.

Defiance short action anti ultralight 6.49 lb 45 cal

Yeah, I think the 16 twist will work well for full bore bullets from what I have read. Especially if you wanted to go heavy. I know there are people who prefer the 18 twist Knight to the 20s. That 240 cutting edge .40 bullet is a solid option for sure, I shot a mule deer buck with it and it...

Defiance short action anti ultralight 6.49 lb 45 cal

It will be interesting to hear how the sabots handle the 16 twist. I would worry that fast twist might rip them apart. I had sabot failure in a 1/20 twist when charges got much over 100 grains by volume. 105-110 grains would be maybe 1 in 4 shots and at 120 it was probably half the shots I saw...

What scope base for Knight Ultra Lite?

I’ve got a Murphy base on my ultra lite (with a mountaineer .45 barrel) and as others have said, it is about the best option available. My only complaint would be that the base is a bit higher than I would like and even with low rings (using Zeiss precision 30mm rings - 0.85 base to bottom of...

Knight ultra lite 45 and Maximus 240

I’ll have to find and read that article. Interesting how it worked flawlessly in one gun and key holed in the other with both having the same twist rate. It would be nice if someone made a more durable sabot option.

Knight ultra lite 45 and Maximus 240

I found the original article I read and did not see anything in that article. This is quoted from the article I read... ‘I went right to a 120-grain Blackhorn 209 charge ... and the sabots held up beautifully. The sabots shown above right pretty much represent how all of the recovered sabots...

Knight ultra lite 45 and Maximus 240

The article I read originally which I believe some of you have seen as well was written by Toby Bridges and was the reason I tried the 240 Maximus in the first place. He was shooting 120 grains of blackhorn and getting 2179fps and 130 grains of blackhorn getting 2211fps according to the article...

Knight ultra lite 45 and Maximus 240

DWM, how much powder are you using in your gun? I shot a buck with the 240 grain Maximus and was impressed with the results. Dropped it in it’s tracks and as far as I could tell the bullet performed as advertised though I did not recover the bullet. I was using the light blue crushed rib...

    New knight purchase

I believe you can get the 1-20 mountaineer .45 barrel for $400 from knight and then you can get the ultra lite in .50 for about $900....so for $1300 you could have both barrels by doing it that way.

    New knight purchase

I have the exact gun you are asking about. Knight ultralite stock with a mountaineer .45 fast twist 1-20 barrel. I looked at buying the gun that way but chose to do it differently for a few reasons. I was interested in having both the .50 and .45 barrels for hunting different states. You can get...

    Hello from North Dakota

I'm new to the forum but have been lurking for a while just trying to read and learn as much as I can. I have 2 muzzleloaders at the moment including a CVA .45 that I do all my hunting with and a .50 Johnathan Browning Mountain rifle. I went on a few muzzleloader hunts this fall and have been...
