    Lube barrel not bullet?

For N-SSA competition, I just dip lube the base rings of a minie and move on. We don't wipe between shots either. That said, I recommend against Crisco if you're serious about accuracy. What I found was the old "Blood Mud" formula of Crisco worked just fine, but since they did away with the bad...

    Want to see muzzleloading thrive?

Some more pix from this summer. We've been working in two camps and the kids have been having a ball. Vinny demonstrating his Ferguson and yes, we shot it live for the kids. Note "Teddy" in the background on the left. It's good to see some kids know their history enough to remark on how much he...

What's to stop you from organizing it? Get with others in your club of like mind and make it happen! That's kinda what we did and have been working to keep it going.

    Want to see muzzleloading thrive?

We chose Scout camps for a reason. First- it's probably the largest youth org in the world. Second- they have summer camps with ranges and that takes out the urban issue. We've seen kids from many big cities and they always have a ball. Third- complacency on the part of the average person will...

    Want to see muzzleloading thrive?

Get involved with kids. You guys out there who enjoy muzzleloading are the very people who will help the new folks find out just how much fun this can be but it won't happen if you don't get involved. A small group of us decided to work with kids and the largest youth org around far and away is...

    Smoothbore shooters?

I shoot a 69cal Macon conversion and use 65g 3f Swiss and it's pretty darn accurate. For a .72, I'd suggest starting in the mid 60g area and work up and you'll also have to experiment a bit with patches.

    Identify these projectiles.........

Not exactly. They function the same but the difference is in the size of the individual balls. Canister is smaller than grape.

Need Help with accuracy issues TC Renegade

I have a rifle that has a bore so bad the patches are pretty much not more than a dirty lint ball after firing, but darn if it doesn't shoot.

Schuetzen Powder Accuracy Test & Velocity

I shoot 3f Swiss in competition shooting with Civil War arms. What I've found is 2 or 3f in Swiss- there's not too much difference other than you can use a bit less with 3f. In regards to Old E, it used to be my goto powder but I've found that it's almost identical to Swiss so I switched to...

    Marvels mystery oil?

Don't use it to clean, that's either Windex or Dawn/water. After cleaning, I use MM Oil to wipe down the bore and exposed metal.

    Pellets for the 44

First off, it's Pyrodex, a poor substitute for the real thing. Second, nowhere will you see accuracy and competition mentioned in conjunction with pellets.

    Will 3f black powder work?

Admitted this is a fine point, but the burn rate is constant. By exposing more surface area, more is being burnt at the same time but the composition called black powder itself is not burning any faster. By exposing more surface area a given weight will burn in a shorter time than the same...

    Will 3f black powder work?

NO IT DOES NOT. The RATE at which the powder burns is a constant. What DOES increase with 4f is the AMOUNT of powder burning at that single moment and the result is a quicker rise in pressure. You just stated that black powder is a surface burn, yes that is correct. What does not change is the...

    Will 3f black powder work?

Not exactly true. Black powder is different from smokeless in burn rate. In a given brand/product of black powder, say Swiss, there is only one burn rate. What changes are the sizes of the "granules" of powder, the "F", and that changes the amount of surface area exposed to ignition. It still...

    Will 3f black powder work?

I use 3f in both pan and main charge with no issues.
