I have the following leupolds a vx2 3-9x40 a vx-iii 2.5-8x36 a vx3 3.5-10x40 a m8 6x36 and fx ii 6x36. My favorites are the vx2 3-9x40 and the fixed 6x36's. I probably wouldn't go lower than 6 power on the upper end for 300 yds, for hunting it's fine, but at the range it sure doesn't feel like...
Beautiful! I've thought about the same thing but the only stainless GM lrh barrels I have seen for sale are $$$$, and the cougar stocks are just as much.

I hope they do, if for no other reason than some healthy competition. The price of blackhorn has gotten higher than the benefits for me, and I've gone back to 777.

You could buy a mountaineer barrel from knight, and depending on your stock, it may fit or your stock may need inletting for it to fit. Depending on tolerances it sounds like the bolt and trigger are interchangeable on a lot of the knight bolt guns, but you would need a new breech...
Picked up a Leupold vx-iii 2.5-8x36 off ebay for $269. Used, but looks to be in good shape from the pictures. Thanks for all the suggestions and recommendations.

One of my good friends had the viper hs, I was impressed until it failed to hold zero. Vortex replaced it, probably an uncommon problem, but I have very little confidence in vortex qc.
I have a vx-3 on another rifle and really like it. So if I could find one on sale for 299 that would be a good option.
I have looked at the redfield numerous times, I actually like the accurange reticle. My only worry is future customer service, I just don't feel really confident Leupold...
