It's almost time for the eclipse to begin. My home is in the path of totality. We have a relatively clear day in Indiana. Our temp is around 74 deg. I have food in the pantry, beer in the fridge and plenty of ammo. I think I am ready for any craziness that may occur.

Concerning the 250 grain loads, check the reloading data online. You will find that they call for rifle powders instead of pistol powders. IMR 3031, Benchmark, TAC and such. These are all producing subsonic speeds.

How would someone judge that a musket (or any) cap is weak? Is it a slow ignition or a failure to ignite? I'm just curious. What is the gauge for such a judgment call?

Muzzle brakes are good for reducing felt recoil. Do be careful to wear hearing protection anytime you use one.
