Shimming 209's - How much primer "crush"?

Birddog, I replied to you message. Well it turns out I was way off. The .012" I was measuring was the forward bolt movement before I hit the quick release pin. ( I just installed ) After using washers between the bolt face and some spent primers (no adapter installed) I figured out I need...

Shimming 209's - How much primer "crush"?

The smallest W209 primer I measured was 0.296" and the largest was 0.301". All from the same box of 100. I have another box of 100 as well. I will probably measure and sort all of them in the next day or so. Just to see what I have the most of.

Shimming 209's - How much primer "crush"?

I have a Knight Original DISC, that I just converted to bare primers with a Lehigh BP, Lehigh Adaptor and a new bolt body. I was getting ready to order the 0.248" OD shims (0.005" thick) to shim the primer pocket on my knight. The bolt handle falls without contacting the action and crushing...

Old School D.I.S.C. Quick Release Bolt Conversion (PICS)

I didn't see the video just used what I read here. https://www.modernmuzzleloader.com/threads/shimming-the-209-primer-pocket-updated-4-7-16.28388/

Old School D.I.S.C. Quick Release Bolt Conversion (PICS)

I tried the Win209's last night, bolt falls no crush. (firing pin assembly removed) I don't have any shims on hand to see how much I need but I can order some. I could not get ahold of any Fed209a. I did buy some Rem STS's as backup, but the plan is to use the WIN209's as that is what I use...

Old School D.I.S.C. Quick Release Bolt Conversion (PICS)

Big Thanks to Birdog for sending me the tap. I got the quick release installed last night (along with the bare primer conversion). I used a cordless drill, #2 drill bit and a tap wrench to tap by hand. Now I just need to shim the primer pocket and get shooting. If anyone else needs this tap...

Old School D.I.S.C. Quick Release Bolt Conversion (PICS)

Amazon for taps... Go figure. I can order taps/drill bits at work and usually it saves money as they get shipped with work stuff and I don't have to pay shipping. In this case amazon is $3 cheaper. I had never really thought about amazon for drill bits/taps ect. Thanks for the link. For...

Old School D.I.S.C. Quick Release Bolt Conversion (PICS)

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I would rather dig this up than create a new one. I am probably over complicating this but, for anyone who has done this... did you use a standard Taper Chamfer or a plug chamfer tap? Just thinking that to get to full thread on a taper chamfer you have to...

Thankfully the bore is perfectly clean... the brown stuff is on the outside of the action and hex of the breach plug.... I have not been able to get the gun back out and try again, but I am guessing it is just a dried grease of some kind. He had some strange "old school" products that he would...

New with Questions - Original Knight D.I.S.C

I think your responses helped me figure the details that were still confusing me. If you want to shoot bare 209 primers and have a Disc rifle. If you have the bolt for the red plastic jacket... you buy the adapter and the lehigh breech plug. ($31) If you have an original disc bolt you can get...

New with Questions - Original Knight D.I.S.C

I was recently given a Knight "original" DISC rifle by a long time friend/mentor. You can read about that in my intro thread over in the Welcome forum. ("New Wisconsin Member" is the title.) The long and the short of it is that I want to get this thing shooting as a reminder of him and the...

Hello All, I am from south central Wisconsin, and just got an old Knight Muzzleloader from gentleman I worked for as a teenager. He became a friend/mentor of sorts, and he introduced me to dog training and duck hunting. Looking back it seams as though we spent as much time in the field...
