    2021 deer season

I had a rough 2021. I had right shoulder reconstructive surgery on Oct 5th, due to an injury, and then my oldest daughter and granddaughter were killed on Oct 29th. So it's an understatement to say that I was neither mentally or physically able to hunt for most of the deer season here in...

Some Difficulty Getting My Savage ML II to Group Well

I only used a small amount of Permatex anti-seize with the factory breech plug and vent liner. I never had an issue with either coming loose from shooting or being difficult to remove afterwards. I only removed the breech plug/ vent liner for cleaning after every 100 shots. My pet load was 43gr...

Hornady XTP 240 Grain (Green Sabot) - 1:48 Twist

Either they will shoot well out of your rifle or they won't. I personally don't use them, not because they're bad, but because of the lack of sabot selection to adjust for varying rifle bore diameters.

    David Pedersoli - ID, disassembly?

I got a Hawken in rough shape like that when my Paw-Paw passed. I used Idaho Lewis's chore boy( Sidelock Patented Breech/Fire Channel ) method with excellent results considering the condition of the bore.

    Hawkens and sabots

Indeed sir, my .50 Hawken clover leafs at 50 yds with MMP sabots and a 250 grain Speer Deep Curl. I use a Williams FP-Hawken tang aperture and Lyman 17 AHB globe up front because of my declining eyesight due to age....

Sabots, sidelocks and other sources of happiness

My hand me down TC Hawkin 1:48 with a neglected, pitted barrel loves sabots, especially the TC Shockwave 250gr, one ragged hole at 50 yds with factory sights using a Caldwell lead sled. She's not to picky about seating pressure and the sabots slide down the barrel like they've been coated with...
