    1x Scope?

Little more research and found this was well hashed out over here. Bottom line: Not much available. https://www.utahwildlife.net/threads/1x-scope-recommendations-for-muzzleloader.209103/

    1x Scope?

We hunt Utah mule deer with muzzle loaders. For reasons best known to the Utah Fish and Game powers that be they changed from allowing any scope to only 1x on front stuffers this year. My 73 year old eyes require glass and crosshairs. Any of you folks have experience and recommendations on 1x...

    I bought a Cricket

If you can find them, Remington CB Longs shoot accurately for me and are quiet out of a long barrel.

Fouling a barrel for hunting.... and what about the end of the day

Just my 2cents worth, but we hunt with a clean bore. When sighting in we will take the time to completely clean between shots.

    What would you do?

Unless that $16.50 is needed elsewhere, I think you have made the right call: "The old man price for a tag is $16.50 so I will buy one and make the decision if a tender one walks past."

    .50 cal. sabot vs full bore/conical ?

In my TC Black Mountain Magnum I use Harvester crush rib sabot's with 300gr XTP's when I can, when I hunt Oregon the sabot's are verboten so I use TC Maxiballs. Just my 2 cents, the Maxi's seem to smack harder with a trajectory reminiscent of a mortar. The XTP's shoot flatter and can reach out...

    Mountain Brook Trout

Them are some nice sized brookies. Don't think I have ever caught one bigger than 10 inches.

    50-70 Brass?

Go ahead and order the brass from Starline. I think when they get enough on backorder it encourages them to go ahead and make a batch.

A modern flintlock setup for deer

Most folks who shoot flinters are traditionalists. Any gun that doesn't look like it was carried by "Ol' Dan'l Boone hiz'elf" causes them great annoyance and displeasure. As I understand your quest, you are looking for a gun with really only three criteria: Reasonably cheap, qualifies for...

    Cur Dog

My son has a Black Mouth Cur/Lab cross. She is a very good deer tracker. No way she loses a bloodtrail. And a fantastic family dog as well, great with the young grandchildren.

Yet a few more BH209 questions...

A couple more trips to the range to report. Shooting was done at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Centers 300 yard public range. ( Sacramento Valley Shooting Center – Sacramento Valley Shooting Center ) As I mentioned above, I am using the Leupold Muzzleloader scope and it has this reticle...

Yet a few more BH209 questions...

Finally got back out to the range. Shot at 150 yards, same load of 90 gr BH209, crushrib and 300 gr XTP, and started with the same scope settings as before. Five shots for group. Then adjusted 10 clicks to the right, last two shots after adjusting were touching pretty much dead center high...
