    In-Stock Powder and Primers

Thanks for the heads up on the Winchester W209! Bought 4 for under $50. I have been looking for these for the last 2+ years! They are never in stock around me in the NH.

    Omega Differences

There was also a blued version of the X7 only available from Cabela's. Had one and sold it after having the rear lug tig welded and the barrel cerakoted. The bluing was very thin from the factory. I always thought that as the budget X7. Btw, the barrel was a short (24") tapered and fluted...

    gonic contender 50 cal. barrel

Interesting, that is the first I have heard of a 38 special brass breach plug for a Gonic barrel. I would be surprised if it was original from Gonic Arms. If the barrel and fire hole are in good condition I am sure it will be accurate. I would consider that a very rare contender barrel...

Barnes 290 grain TMZ 24 pack in stock at Muzzle-loaders.com 3/24/23

At 150 yard the 250 is going to work amazing on deer. Shot a 147 lb buck two years ago at 128 yards. Dead in 25 yards, watched it plow the ground and break an antler on the way down... He had a blood trail that a blind man could have followed.

Barnes 290 grain TMZ 24 pack in stock at Muzzle-loaders.com 3/24/23

For the past several years I have used the Barnes 250 grain TMZ, 85 grains by volume BH209, and W209 primers in my Knight ultralight. They are amazing for a blood trails. I am switching over to the 290 TMZ for possible hunting out west for elk and bear in NH. The 250 would likely be fine...

Knight Ultra Lite bullets? Barnes TMZ’s WAY to tight

Yes it's a very early production ultralight based on serial number. Grouping if I do my part is 1" groups three shots. Groups open up quick as the barrel warms up. I am always sighted in off a clean cold bore.

    Knight Dyna coat

I have been using my Knight Ultralight with the original Dyna tek coating in saltwater marshes for a bunch of years. I have had no issue with corrosion. I only clean it after shooting. Humid days and foggy mornings are not a problem. Just clean it properly after shooting.

    Drones

Drones for hunting are Illegal in NH. I have thermal in its not really any help for game location nor recovery during hunting. Successful hunting requires time in field and understanding the area and current conditions/food. Game recovery comes down to attention to detail, skill, and hard...

    Choosing a Replacement

For your situation there are a lot of guns. A $200 Traditions break action to a $1000+ custom will work. What is your budget? It sounds like you want to go new for the customer service. Do you have a preferred action? Bolt, Break, drop action? Do you shoot loose powder or pellets? Any...

    Opening day rifle

Rifle will depend on the weather. If clear, scoped .50 cal Knight Ultralight. If rail, Omega X7 with peep sight. Best of luck to all this season!

    50 Cal vs 45 Cal

I would stick with the .50 1 in 28 for heavy 400 grain+ lead and might go even larger in caliber and slower twist. Another over looked benefit for the .50 is that the guns are usually lighter because many manufactures use the same barrel diameter for both .50 and .45. The debate on 45 vs 50...

    Patriot Muzzleloader in American Hunter!

Congratulation to Mark and Woodman Arms! American Hunter did a nice article on the .45 Cal Patriot. My only grip with the article was the explanation of the barrel "coating". The Patriot is not coated, the barrel is treated to have a multistep nitride process. Maybe Mark and further...

    BH209 Revisited!

Well BH209 is a really great product just too expensive at $52/8 oz. For what it is worth - it's still selling out around me at that price. For me the value is that the powder is not effected by humidity/rain. I will have to make some decisions once I run out. I bought a Sako in 6.5 CM ...

Hornady 50 Caliber Bore Driver FTX

Thanks for the testing Ron. I will stick with using the Barnes TMZ 250 grain.

    BH209 Revisited!

I was at a local Walmart in NH. $52 for 8 oz is crazy. I have been looking to a 5 lb jug of BH209 and that seems to be out of stock too. Might be time to look into smokeless using my 45 cal Patriot.

    Barnes tmz 290 grain

Thanks for the help. I have enough of the 250 grain tmz for this season. Planning and procuring for 2023+ season. I have been poking around at the local stores without any luck.
