Just out of curiosity, What works out of your Encore?

It has a high probability of needing a hinge pin and spring kit ; I have several and they all shoot best wit 110 or 115gr. of Blackhorn 209 and a 250 gr. bullet, I use a Lehigh for hunting and a SST or a Shock wave for long range target. None of mine will shoot at all well with less than 100gr.

    Blackhorn 209 and powerbelts

The PRB , and I hear they quit making them, but I caught a close out sale and now I have a 50 cal. amo. can just about full of them at a fraction of the normal price. When I can use a sabot I shoot the Lehigh 250 gr [the first one ] it has bone the best job for me since they started making them...

    Blackhorn 209 and powerbelts

Power belts can be made to work good, but to do so with consistency you must keep the velocity down and place your shot carefully. I had problems when I tried to shoot the old original 245 gr. with 110 gr. of RS but when I switch to 295 gr. 75 gr. of RS they did fine. I changed to what I...

    Powder Measure

I am wondering how other people check their measures for accuracy, I have found some that were over 20+grins off the way I check mine. Back in the early 80's one of the old timers at Friendship told me to check mine by using a grain balance scale and getting 100 grains of GOEX 3F weight out and...

    Seating problems TC inline

Use a different powder that stuff is really awful in some guns and some areas. I found out the hard way I spent so much time and effort to get the crud ring out that it was no longer fun to shoot. I went to prydex for my side locks and Blackhorn 209 for the inlines, end of problem.

    Encore 209x50 Load Question

Charlie, This problem has turned up before I used some oil that had Teflon in it and once it was stuck to the barrel I had a bad time and it was difficult to get out.

    Encore 209x50 Load Question

I have two Encores a 50 and a custom 45, I use Lehigh bullets in both with 120 grains volume of BH and have had excellent results for the past 5 years ,I like 250 gain bullets in the 50 and 200 grain bullets in the 45.the longest shot I have had so far is 188 yards but I am confident out to 250...

    Hornady XTP’s

For me they work well with medium loads, with heavy loads of black horn or smokeless the break up.

    Powders

BH is a progressive burning powder you can by reducing the load match the recoil of slower powders. I suggest trying 75 grains volume for 100 yards or less.

Best handling rifle for running game.

A double barrel 12 gage muzzleloading shotgun with a chrome lined bore loaded with 00buck.

    Blackhorn 209

two of the things that commonly cause this problem are oil in the vent hole which needs to be burn out by firing 3 or 4 209 before loading or by not cleaning the carbon that builds up in the breach plug between the 209 seat and the vent hole.

    Bone Collector Problem

You may be looking for the problem in the wrong place. The is a mechanism that blocks it from firing if the locking mechanism is not fully seated. you may have a burr or some dirt in the way.

    BH209 100gr vs 120gr

I have two encores they both group best at 250 yds. with a max load, with a 250 grain bullet in the 50 and a 200 grain in the 45, with a 300 grain bullet the 50 groups best with 110 gr. BH

    Cva ramrod getting chewed up

Be aware of the fact that the ramrod is wearing the rifling at the end of the barrel , this WILL eventually cause the accuracy to go south. I recommend using a brass bushing designed for the purpose to solve both problems at the same time.

    Another perplexing ML problem

One off the things that can cause your problem is what you put in the barrel after you are done shooting. You should use a smokeless cleaner and synthetic gun oil. putting regular black powder cleaner in with BH 209 will gum up.
