    BH 209 woes

I just got an email from MidwayUSA that the Blackhorn 209 had been discontinued and would no longer be available. I had emailed Hodgdon a couple weeks ago, with no answer. So I called them. I got an answering 3 times, so I emailed them again. Surely they are not going to discontinue the best...

    Knight Sabots

I wanted to try some of the Blue Sabots, made by Knight for the boat tail bullets. So, I go to their website, as these are not sold anywhwere within 25 miles, probably more. The sabots sell for $8.99, but they want a $15 shipping charge, That makes it cost $23.99 for 50 sabots to TRY. I have...

I have always just shot the BH 209, and cleaned at the end of the year. Not that many shots. BUT, how often do you clean or wipe your barrel?

    Accurate 250 gr and BH209

This post is specific to CVA Accura rifles with 250gr bullets and BH209 powder. What has been your most consistently accurate loading, and what primer are you using?

    Traditions Nitrofire

Traditions has come out with an inferior breech loading rifle, that uses a plastic case, to hold the powder and primer, called a Fire stick. It appears you still shove a bullet into the barrel, but not sure from which end. They are trying to pass it off as a muzzleloader. What a hoot! If Texas...

    What sabot?

I have been using the MMP 3 petal EZ sabot, in my CVA, with great groups. A friend shoots a CVA and tried the red Crush Rib sabot, and his groups went to a third the size. I have shot the black, but never red, and waiting on the red crush rib sabots to arrive.

    Which primer?

What are the advantages / disadvantages of the old style vs the new style receiver opening on the Accura and Optima models? Any idea why they changed the design?

200gr Shockwave vs 250 gr Shockwave

I have only used the Hornady 250 gr SST for hunting, and had good results. I recently found some T/C Shockwave on sale. Some were 200 gr and some were 250 gr. As the Shockwave and the SST are the same bullet wit a different material tip, I bought all they had. Now, my question is, has anyone...

    Crud ring

I see a lot of people blame the crud ring with T7, on the 209 primer. Why is that, how did you come to that conclusion and what have you done to eliminate or minimize it?

    Alliant Black MZ

I never see anyone mention this stuff. Have any of you used it, and what was your experience. I bought a pound, to try in my old Hawkin. Will it reliably ignite with the #11 cap in the caplocks?

    Optima versus Optima

I am unfamiliar with the original Optimas. Do they have a breech plug similar to the V2? Do they have a breech plug designed for BH 209?

    Barrel lapping

Do any of you fellas, lap the barrel of a new muzzle loader, when it is new?

    Same bullets?

Does anyone know if the T/C Shockwave is made by Hornady? They look exactly like the SST and FTX.

Most accurate In Line, for the money

There are many In-line ML's out there. I just wonder what is the best bang for the buck. I am currently shooting the CVA Accure Plains Rifle, with the Bergara barrel, and this thing just stacks them in there. I was so impressed, I bought another one, and put my back up, up for sale. I understand...

    Powder

I have been through 5 in-line muzzle loaders, that utilize the 209 primers. All I can say is thank god for Blackhorn 209. That 777 mess, ought to be outlawed. 2 shots with it, and I had a crud ring from hell. With the BH209, I don't even have to wipe the barrel, just keep loading. 50 shots...
