Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Update/Final??- shot it yesterday. I shot it 3 knurled 250MZ Barnes smokeless. The I shot 100gr weighed BH209 with 240 Fury and 245 Bear Creek Ballistics. The target tells the story, it shot great. The picture shows the bump is still there but it is hard to feel. I will probably leave it as is...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

I talked with him at the Hunting show in Grand Rapids but he didn't look at it. Like everyone else he didn't have a good explanation either.

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

I worked on getting the bump out for about half a day last week. Knurled some bullets and the bras jag and kept going over the bad spots. I also used some bore paste and mild abrasive. I have attached the last picture. I can’t feel the bump anymore but the scope shows its there. I think I will...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

D55 - I thought about about trying something like that as I have the materials but was waiting to see if someone had experience as a guide.

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

I am now only working from the breech. Today I took a 250 Barnes MZ (that would just fit down the barrel with a light tap) and I cut a couple grooves in and then knurled it a little. I would tap it down the barrel until it hit the area of the blobs. I would then work it back and forth until it...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Update – I dropped a .452 then a .451 pin gauge down the barrel until it hit the bump. A .450 won’t fit. The gauge has a small chamfer but I thought I would see what it would do without using much force. I then lightly taped it by the bump. It looked like it took some off or flattened it. See...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

At least two spot and I think there is some residue between the spots on the lands.

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Round # 3- I tapped he jag by the bump both ways. Then I would turn it 1/6 turn and repeat six times until all the lands were covered by this process. Then I sharpened both ends of the jag. I repeated this process 3 times. I then sharpened the back of a Barnes 275 XPB and tapped it down the...

I was thinking the same thing on the bore paste.

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Here is the update. Just got back from 2 weeks in Florida and was ready to tackle this issue. Top Picture is original. Next picture is after 200 strokes with copper wool. Last picture is after using a brass jag that I turned in a drill to just fit the barrel. I also used some bore paste on...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Slideshow- I had just read your post on "Ends the Stuck Breech Plug Blues" before you responded. I was aware of most of that, but that is a nice write upon how to do it so I can follow. I have thought about different breech plugs but have not bought one yet, not sure if it is worth it for me...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

I think the Locktite thing is the only thing that makes sense. I have the factory MLII breech plug and I don't thin it seals. I make my own ventliners and only shoot BH209 anymore, I tried about teflon tape,3 different kinds on loctite and then the last two years have used the silver stick...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Yep I wacked it down, it is done all the time when you are trying to get just the right fit when sizing. It is not a rescue exactly, it shot it with 240 Fury and sabots and had excellent results. I might end up with that load as full sizing can be kind of a pain. It just bugs me too feel the...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

This is what happened the best of my knowledge. I shot the Muzzleloader end of November. Cleaned lightly. When I when to load in December, I had to hammer the bullet down when it got stuck. Either something happened last shot or something was in the barrel and when I hammered the last bullets...

Pacnor 45 barrel suddenly got a couple rough spots.

Slideshow, thanks, I will try that. I have some 3/8 brass rod I can try first to knock done off. I have only shoot copper bullets last 3 years. I went to the Fury and sabot after this bump happened.

Hershel , thanks, it seems like l it might be lead and I don't have any experience with the copper wool. Looks like I just keep scrubbing.
